You make a good point. It wouldn't seem to make much sense to redesign the 5.0 just to replace it three or four years later. The new 5.0s are having a lot of problems, but the 4.8 was rumored before these engine rattle and oil consumption issues started.

Ford may be in serious trouble with the Focus/Fiesta debacle.

That's pretty consistent with how they treat F-150 issues, so I could easily see the same thing play out with the 5.0. Or even the frozen door locks, since that is obviously a safety issue that is going to come to a head sooner or later. When they are in a hole they keep digging and it's going to destroy the company at some point.

I think ford sells more 3.5 ecoboost than 5.0's. And they sell more 2.7's than 3.5's and 5.0's combined lol.

If this is true, I am guessing they have found a solution to the oil consumption problem and need some time to make the new parts. Again, just a (hopeful) guess.

Of course they do because that's how Ford wants it. They can focus engine purchases with price. The price for the optional 2.7 EB is laughably low. Considering it's an all new engine there is no way the R and D costs have been paid off yet it's less than $1,000 to get it. The 5.0, despite Ford claims that it was all new in 2011, is just the current generation of the modular V8 that came out in 1991. And because it's a modular engine it rolls of the same production line as it's ancestors without any changes to the plant. All of it's development costs were paid off many years ago yet it cost is twice as much as the 2.7. Ford could probably price the 5.0 at $500 and still make money on it but they don't because they want the 2.7 to be the volume engine.
