Is The End In Sight? Ford Plans To Scale Back 5.0L V8 Production At Essex Engine Plan

I saw that article yesterday. Interesting if true. There are several articles dating back to 2016 indicating that Ford had a new high-output 4.8L on the horizon, ultimately replacing the 5.0L Coyote. However, Ford re-engineered the Coyote in 2018, giving it a 12:1 compression ratio (from 11:1), multiport injection, and twin independent variable camshaft timing; essentially the same attributes that were going to make the 4.8L more efficient and better than the 5.0L.

Ford may be in serious trouble with the Focus/Fiesta debacle.

That's pretty consistent with how they treat F-150 issues, so I could easily see the same thing play out with the 5.0. Or even the frozen door locks, since that is obviously a safety issue that is going to come to a head sooner or later. When they are in a hole they keep digging and it's going to destroy the company at some point.

I read it in another thread on here but found this on google. It says 10-12 week delay on 5.0 orders. Updated May 7th:

Of course they do because that's how Ford wants it. They can focus engine purchases with price. The price for the optional 2.7 EB is laughably low. Considering it's an all new engine there is no way the R and D costs have been paid off yet it's less than $1,000 to get it. The 5.0, despite Ford claims that it was all new in 2011, is just the current generation of the modular V8 that came out in 1991. And because it's a modular engine it rolls of the same production line as it's ancestors without any changes to the plant. All of it's development costs were paid off many years ago yet it cost is twice as much as the 2.7. Ford could probably price the 5.0 at $500 and still make money on it but they don't because they want the 2.7 to be the volume engine.
