Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
I have a tip for anyone using Apple CarPlay on Sync 3. After iOS CarPlay might seemingly hang often for no reason, there is a fix. I'm sure everyone on iOS 11 knows by now the control center toggle for wifi will not disable wifi like it used to in all previous versions of iOS. Apple's wifi toggle as of iOS 11 in control center only disconnects you from your current network.
Your iPhone will still try to connect to new networks which is a painfully frustrating experience if you live in a city like mine where each of the countless city buses and Chevy rental cars have their own free open wifi. If you are having issues with carplay hanging while driving for seemingly no reason, this is a likely cause. Your iPhone will try and connect to new networks as you drive but won't allow data to pass through until you accept some form of terms of service. I'm sure everyone here has connected to a hotspot before and knows that process.
While iOS control center no longer toggles wifi on and off like it always has (Apple rant for later), if you simply ask Siri to disable wifi (before and after connecting to CarPlay), Siri will completely disable or enable the service and CarPlay should no longer freeze while driving.

So you have issues with both BT and USB?What phones and OS versions did you try? If you look up in the thread I posted links to both the 2016 and 2017 v2.3 binaries. I’d start with a master reset, reinstall, and another master reset. Have you had these issues from day one? If not, when did they start and did you anything to the truck around the same time?
I had a few issues when I first got the truck and it was on 1.0... I assumed updating to 2.3 would cure some/most/all of the issues I was experiencing.
I just bought the truck on Dec 16th (used). When I test drove it everything worked perfect... on my way home everything was working perfect... stopped for gas about an hour in, and noticed the bluetooth audio having issues after that.
I have determined, that when I am having issues with the bluetooth audio staying connected.. I am also having issues with the Nav... If the maps do not come right up.. they won't come up at all, and I know I will be having issues with the bluetooth audio... what ever is happeneing happens randomly, and the next time I start my truck I have no idea if everything is going to work and be fine.. or if neither works and I have issues... I can now determine that if I start it and it is having an issue... it will not get better or go away on that drive... I have not determined for certain now that if I start my truck and things are working, if it could stop working during the drive or not.
I was not certain before, as I do not use the Nav or Maps everytime... but I have been paying more attention and trying to figure out the issue, and I have determined that whenever one part is having trouble the other is as well...
Again on Saturday night, I was going to a new restaurant about 25 min away form my house, and I could type in the address, it found the place, and it loaded the directions from my house, but it never changed and it showed me to be sitting in my drive way the entire trip... We went in and ate, and when I came out.. everything worked perfectly.
I really love it when it is working... but it is just a crap shoot as to weather it is going to work or not... I also have tried 3 times now, pulling over turning the truck off, and waiting about 30 seconds to restart it... it does not fix the issues... so it must take longer than that to reset.. but again, sometimes it can sit over night in the garage and not work when I leave the next morning.
Could it be some sort of short or something int he start up sequence that is giving it an error?
I ordered the new USB that is carplay compatible... If I can reliably use carplay, I am just going to do that... I should be able to use maps, gps, and listen to my music from there. My concern however, is that (not sure if everytime or not, but I know several times) when I have been having issues... even when I plug it in to the USB, it sometimes will not recognize it/it will recognize it but say media devise not available once I try to select it for music playback.
Regardless, I hope to have it soon, and I will report back.
Once I get the new USB... is it as simple as unplug the old one and plug the new one in, or is there anything else I will need to do so that it recognizes it, or knows that it has been upgraded/changed out?
Regardless, I hope to have it soon, and I will report back.

If you at all handy take the radio out and see if there are any loose connectors.
Yes it is pretty simple. You pop the old one out then swap the connectors to new one and reinstall it. Car Play should show up under settings enable it and away you go. Have you tried a master reset on the radio to see if it clears out your BT problems?

Yes I have tried a master reset a few times, cleared bluetooth connection on both truck and phone and repaired, even tried what I believe was a APIM reset... noticed no difference after any of these.
Also, I assume you are referring to the settings on my phone as far as enabling carplay? It shows up under the General Settings, and when I hit it, it takes me to the Carplay set up - searching for available cars screen, so I am assuming that my phone is willing and able... just have to get Bruce(trucks name) on the same page!

If Carplay is not reliable once the USB hub is switched out... that is probably my next step before ordering a new APIM...
Thanks!

Nope on the Sync 3 you will need to enable Car Play after you install the USB hub. Then the phone will ask if you want to allow Sync to connect to the phone. Good Luck
So I guess once I have the new USB hub installed, that menu option will appear? I have searched everywhere and found nothing related to carplay... I thought I read that when you plug your phone in the first time it pops up?
I have a iPhone 6s, running the latest version 11.2.2, but just updated to that from the most recent version that came before... I believe 11.2.1. I also tried my buddies iphone7 that would have had the previous version of iOS, and it was doing the same thing as far as the bluetooth audio cutting out on music.
