I know you've had issues installing 2.3 on your '16. Why don't you get your dealer involved rather than trying to handle it your
self? Something is wrong.

What if you have problems with 3.0 not designed for your truck?

I honestly am thinking about ordering a APIM and installing it. I bought the truck last month, and it was having some of the issues I am having now. I assumed at that time that the update would correct those issues, but they have persisted. I was thinking about trying the 3.0 update before I ripped my dash apart and spent several hundred dollars on the APIM.

I actually took it to the local dealer towards the end of last month, and had a horrible experience, and they did not do the update which is why I took it to them... I scheduled it 4 days in advance and made sure I got the first appointment on a Saturday got up 2 hours earlier than normal and walked back to my house (1.6 miles not far but still, and it was cold) just to be called 4 hours later saying they could not do the update. This was less than a month from me dropping my old 06 truck off for engine issues, that they tried to tell me I needed a new transmission, then all new plugs, then just a plug must be loose - but yet never actually performed any work on the truck for the 5 days it was there.. took it to a shade tree mechanic that I have used for years, and right away determined it was the #1 coil, replaced it and everything was fine.

The next closest dealer is about an hour away... Due to family and work, I really do not have time to even take off to go and drop it off at a dealer... the only time I have to myself is from about 10:00 - 12:30 every night after my family goes to bed, so that is when I work on my projects...

I did call the local dealer yesterday to discuss my problems, the service adviser had no clue what she was talking about, transferred me to someone else who said I was to blame, then was getting transferred again and got disconnected... I cannot deal with them again shame on them the first 2 times, shame on me if I do it again sort of thing.

I did order the new USB hub last night that is supposed to be carplay compatible... I am hoping that I can use carplay and have a dependable way to listen to my music...

It is still so perplexing how rock solid the bluetooth is when it is a phone call, but absolutely the most unreliable and confusing thing to try to listen to music... It was working on my way to lunch today, get ready to leave lunch and the song I had been listening to started right back up... I then had the audacity to try changing the song... and no audio from my phone... the time was moving on both the phone and the sync3 screen but no sound, switched to fm and satellite and they were perfect, tried to switch back to the phone and got the old "media devise not available" tried to plug it in via USB, and it never registered that I had anything plugged in... someone called me and it went straight to sync3, answered by touching the screen talked perfectly the whole conversation, and then went right back to "media devise not available" when I tried to listen to music again.

Beyond that, the ford dealer said it was a $200 diagnostic fee, and my concern is that I get there and it work perfectly while there...

I am literally grasping at straws but again I have to believe its a bad APIM... even though I am not 100% sure what it is or how to get one. The one I found on Tasca only appears to be sync2 versions. Will be trying disconnecting the battery tonight, but I am not holding out much hope at this point

Sorry meant to say, that the installation of 2.3 appears to have worked, it just has not resolved my issues

exactly the reason why I never run iOS betas on my primary phone. I stopped trying out Apple betas all together a few years ago. Their stable non beta releases have enough bugs already.

wtcorley, if a $200 diagnostic fee bothers you a new APIM is not practical. Those things are close to $2000 plus a core charge plus tax. If you need a different APIM get one from a wrecker or try a warranty claim.

The plan is to try and find one and pull it... The local dealership would be higher and charge the labor on top... that is if they even figured it out for $200... If they cannot tell that a simple coil needs to be replaced on an 06 5.4... I find it more difficult to believe that they can find/resolve this issue.

I am well out of warranty, so no help there...

I always try to work backwards from problems... I have tried just about everything I know to/have been told to try to no avail... I updated the software, tried different phones, tried different cables, different ports, mater resets, APIM resets, delete everything and start fresh... as days go by, it seems as though replacing the APIM is the only thing left to try, beyond disconnecting the battery which will be attempted in within the next 2 hours... I would try running the 2.3 update again, but I don't have the file anymore, and the ford website wont give it to me because it says it was a successful update and no new updates exist... Which is why I wanted to try going to 3.0 and actually sit there and wait on it step by step to make sure no issues arose from the installation.

Please if anyone has any other ideas, or things to try I am all ears and more than willing to try them!

I would gladly hand someone $500 cash right now if they fixed it(actually well more than that)... but giving those clowns $200 to tell me they can't find the issue (again) is not something I am willing to do

So you have issues with both BT and USB?What phones and OS versions did you try? If you look up in the thread I posted links to both the 2016 and 2017 v2.3 binaries. I’d start with a master reset, reinstall, and another master reset. Have you had these issues from day one? If not, when did they start and did you anything to the truck around the same time?

Ive been testing the newest version of Sygic all day. With the latest Sync 3 build, Ford Pass enabled apps seem to integrate better with Sync 3 and feel less frustrating to initialize upon first use. I always master reset after an update and setup everything as if the truck is new.

A few months have passed since my youtube post showing how to get sygic. Since that post was an older version of Sync 3 and Sygic, I decide to revisit Sygic to see if anything has improved. This is my current setup:

iPhone X
iOS 11.2.2
Auto lock in iOS = disabled
Sygic version: 15.8.1
Sygic run in background toggle = enable
Sygic external power toggle = high performance
Sync 3 version: 3
Sync 3 build: 17307

Verdict:
Sygic is now slightly easier to connect to Sync 3 and marginally more user friendly. In fact all Ford pass apps now seem a bit easier to setup.

Sygic still crashes and freezes a lot and nobody should consider paying for it at this time.

I ran it with iOS only in these conditions:

1) Airplane mode (since the whole sale point of Sygic is true offline nav). It worked great for 5 minutes then crashed.

2) Cell data and wifi disabled.

3) Just wifi disabled. It locked up almost immediately.

4) under normal data network conditions but allowed the phone to auto lock itself. Sygic crashed but only after running in the background for a while.

Sygic is available for Android. If anyone else wants to try it on Android Im curious to know if it is just as bad.

I used Sygic for android a while back, before maps would let you download large areas and before gettng my f150, and had no trouble with it . Guess I have to test it out again now with Sync 3.
If I get a chance I'll give it a go this weekend.
