My friend does have navigation.

Just a thought here.

Is it possible that the update writes back to the usb stick some info that is directly related to the truck that the update was first applied to and that messes up any update being applied to a different vehicle?

Has anyone checked their usb stick after the update for this?

Stumbled upon this site while looking for Apple Carplay info.

Just picked up a new 2016 Edge, Sync version 2.0 and Carplay does not come up for me.

This hub looks like it will fit in the Edge, looking to confirm. Also how did you easily remove the existing hub?

Thanks!

Ordered usb port #
HC3Z19A387B

W/Blue LED's from Waltsweenyfordparts on ebay. Identical size etc. Perfect swap. Came with Sync 3 Version 2.0. Was supposed to be here by tomorrow. Showed up Saturday. Super fast shipping. Popped out the old, unplugged and plugged in new and popped back in. Hooked up phone and carplay now works!

That appears to be correct. When I looked at total size of data after installing the nav version and there was a difference. It was a while ago and I don't remember the difference in the data size.

Best suggestion, go back to the original, unzipped file and start over again. Reformat the thumbdrive and then unzip it to the USB. Have him reinstall the clean files and see if that clears ups his issues.

Also, does his system actually say Version 2.2?

MFT used to write back a file so you could go to owner page and update the owner page. I believe SYNC 3 does the same since the code is based off of MFT.

I beg to differ. MFT was written by Microsoft while Sync3 is Blackberry/QNX

You're correct, but the same basic code(or however developers refer to it) was adapted to be used in SYNC 3. Or at least that's the information I've received from my sources in Dearborn and why there are some of the same undocumented features.

Definitely the way it used to work, the upgrade would write back to your USB - you'd take that back to your PC and "Finish" the upgrade process by telling Ford you had updated - it did it by VIN.

It may be the same for the latest version, but it also sounds from many posts that since the '16's and '17's have Wifi they can connect and update Ford after the update on their own.
