Why did you remove the picture? I wanted to ask you about it and how you did it? What parts exactly did you use?

Sorry about that, was messing with them and it didn't upload again.

Here is a link to the power inverter and USB cable. You will also need the wiring plug (can get the part number later) and outlet cover. Use the factory wiring from the 12V socket to tap into for the inverter. If you look up the outlet cover on fordparts.com use a Limited or Platinum Explorer as the charging ports are not available on the XLT.

Here is the link for the outlet covers. The dual plug version I used and shown in the pictures is 19A495A on the diagram. If you want to use the single outlet version as not to cut up your vehicle as much use 19A495B. The single outlet is used inside the center console of the Explorer and will require minor trimming to fit where a 12V cigar outlet is. If you really want the factory look, the dual outlet charging ports are available on the '17 F150 so you could get the trim piece for the back of the center console and the cover would snap right in.

Sync II

Sync 3 isnt available until the 2017 model year on export models. That's not what the dealer told me, but that's for a different thread.

Thanks guys for the info.

I'm new here so I'm scrolling through all of this. Couldn't help myself. Ran the VIN and the window sticker says Sync 3. I've never seen Sync 2 on a 2016 F-150 of any kind. Sync 3 was out before the 2016 F-150 was out.

So if it truly has sync 2 (a simple picture of the screen would determine that) then it sounds like someone in the factory goofed, but I find that highly unlikely.

OK before I get yelled at I get back on topic.

Seth (glad to be here. wish I found this place sooner!)

I need to verify this but here's what I believe is the naming on iPhones. With v2.0, which is a delivered version on new vehicles, it shows Ford Explorer(or whatever vehicle you have) with version 2.2 it shows Bluetooth, with version 1.0, v1.1, MFT or basic SYNC it shows as SYNC.
i just got my replacement hub from Walt Sweeney and my original must have been defective. CarPlay immediately came up after changing the hub out. Big thanks to Bobby at Walt Sweeney for the help.

Got my Ford (blue lighted) hub from Sweeney Ford today. My truck came with Sync 2.0. As soon as I plugged in my iPhone Carplay popped up. Cool upgrade, thanks to everyone for this info!

Default Problems with Sync 3 2.2 update.

I installed the unofficial version on my 2016 f150- XLT with Nav without any problems. I loaned the same USB stick to my friend to update his Sync 3 and he has had nothing but trouble. The radio no longer works as well as his blue tooth. He brought it to the dealer and they can't figure it out. I personally tried every reset option possible and the darn thing still won't work. Ford is ordering a new radio for his truck to see if that will solve the problem.

I would guess he did NOT have NAV and that is why your upgrade for NAV bricked his. Curious if it is covered under warranty since they probably 'don't know why' it quit working.

Based on the fact he mentioned stick (singular) and not sticks (plural) you may be correct. The non-navigation update is a 2 part installation and a single stick could not have properly installed the update on a non-navigation system.
