By the way, the F150 is under warranty. I bought it on August 2016.

Latest update on my attempts:
1) Used a brand new 64GB USB drive, formatted to fat32.
2) Installation failed, citing out of memory
3) Pulled 10A fuse #32
4) Waited 30 minutes
5) Separated each install to one file at a time, per the suggestion earlier in this thread
6) Installation failed at HN1T-14G423-BA, citing out of memory.
I have an appointment with Ford on Monday, but given the experience others have had I am probably going to cancel it.

Tried USB number 3. No luck fixing the voice recognition issue. My truck is due for service so I'm taking it in and telling them that my voice recognition doesn't work. As far as I am concerned it is a function of my vehicle that is no longer functioning as it did when I bought it in November. I'm convinced that it is the hardware itself that isn't working.
just got off chat with sync. I had 4 failed attempts one ota.
this is what I was told
at least 32gb drive
formatted to exfat
DO NOT remove usb when you get "successful installation" "remove usb" because only 1st part of installation complete.
should get second installation complete remove usb message.
will take at least 30 min maybe little longer.
and wait 5min to restart truck.
chat lady said instructions are being updated on web site.
I mentioned losing gracenote ver # and that some are reporting losing voice and she said we were not getting any notification of those thinge disappearing or becoming non functional.
chat lady said if voice is lost must go back to dealer.
I will try in a bit and report back

That's crazy. If I'm following fords directions and it's not updating then there must be something wrong with the hardware not allowing it to upgrade. That's not really the users fault.

same thing over and over , fact = if you have apple , change usb , put apple car play in phone , plug in every day , if your radio gets updated it will see your phone instantly ,if does not see phone , try next day, over and over.
Android , put Android Auto in phone , plug in everyday , when radio updates It will see your phone instantly .if does not see phone , try next day, over and over.
REMEMBER MUST USE CABLE THAT CAME WITH YOURE PHONE ,,,ALL USB CABLES ARE NOT CREATED BEQUAL !
this is FOR sync 3 8" screen NO NAV !
