Default Column Shift or Console Shift

My 2020 STX was the 1st column shift car I've owned since my 73' Pontiac.. Most of my cars being manual transmissions including my 2004 F150 Heritage.. That said, my last to vehicle have what I now see is somewhat silly and useless console automatic gear selectors. I have to say I really like the benefits of my column shifter for it frees up the console for storage etc.. The manual shifting mode is really clear.. what say you? Column or Console shifter?

I prefer the console shifter but I would take a column shifter over that stupid dial **** Ford put in my wife's Edge.

It's a no brainer - column. A console shifter is a huge waste of space and serves no meaningful benefit. Console shifters were probably cheaper for the manufacturers when linkages were mechanical vs electronic.

I like the console shifter better. My last 4 F150s had the console shifter and I still have a 92 with the column shifter. Even with my console shifter storage isn't an issue. My console is like a bottomless pit.

People use trucks as people carriers now but they waste one seating space with a console.

I kind of like the old school feel of the column shifter in my ‘19 STX. This is my first column shifted vehicle since my 2001 Ford Escape, but that one was pretty bad because it was too long. My hand always banged into it when I reached for the audio controls.

I like the fact that no one is sitting right next to me.

Have driven both in manual and automatic transmissions. Personally, my preference would be column shift, so that I can get the bench seat. It's not super important though and I will be happy with either.
