Too bad that all this has happened to you and your truck. Nice truck,I really like that blue. You might not want it back after riding in that new 2018 STX loaner. I have one and I’m really enjoying it, feels great passing all those gas stations that I had to frequent when I owned a 2017 Ram PowerWagon.

Not knowing the 2.7, curious if this sprocket is for cam drive or something else for the crank position sensor? Would think if cam drive one or more valves may be hurt, but then being a lower compression turbo motor maybe not.

Regarding what causes the failure: All of these motors are highly stressed. It's quite an engineering feat that they are so reliable, but I expect any stressed part with a flaw will fail pretty quickly. My 432ci 700hp Windsor cost about 30 grand and has a between rework life of 1-1.5K miles. What these motors can do stock these days is truly amazing.

My mother's 88 Camry ejected it's crank pulley going down the road. She said she saw it rolling/bouncing on the road behind her into the weeds. When I went to look at the car, the belt was loose, but I didn't see the pulley damage because the belt had eaten perfect grooves into the rubber that was left around the pulley. I had to stare at it for a bit... and then I was like "wait what?" lol.. In the car's defense, it was 17 years old with 300k on the clock.

An interference engine is a type of 4-stroke internal combustion piston engine in which one or more valves in the fully open position extends into any area that the piston may travel into. By contrast, in a non-interference engine the piston does not travel into any area into which the valves open.

People found out the hard way what this meant back in the 80s when they started with timing BELTs and failures were common.

Default Update!!!

Finally spoke with the service manager . The crank sprocket broke bib there was no issue with the motor, however, they did a compression test and found that cylinder 4 did not have any compression. Maybe something else?
Because of this, they had to replace the head on one side. Glad it is covered under warranty but damn they are slow. According to the Service Manager, Truck will be ready on Tuesday, 18 days from the date the truck was towed in .

That really sucks. I'd definitely want to see a good compression test on all 6 cylinders before I took it home.

Most of the wait is for the dealer waiting for Ford to approve the repair as warranty, then ordering the part(s) from central warehouse.

Glad it is working out!

Hi everyone. I finally got my truck back on 6/29. Everything feels good so far. They replaced the timing chain Sprocket, timing components, and a new head on the driver side. It took 3 weeks to the day. I hope there are no further major issues. I really missed her.
