2018 5.0L with Multiple Problems
Thanks for that. I'm trying to fake-convince myself to accept the issues, even though deep down they're just really still bothering me, hence the post earlier. I'm also driving my wife crazy about the whole thing, so this forum has literally become my "venting place." With respect to what you've said, I think the part that really hits home for me is just like you said "I still love my truck....at least what it was supposed to be." I've had multiple Fords, and they've always been my complete Favorite! I just had an affair with Ram, imagine my surprise to come back to all of this. I think I'll continue to press on, let's see what happens. If for nothing else, to run the whole thing completely to ground so others can see what I went through and maybe learn from it to, or I could always hope that maybe Ford learns something too and they actually address these problems.
Anyway, here's the latest:
I called Ford customer care again and was assigned a new case number, which was weird, but whatever. Very friendly so far with Ford Customer service, but no solutions other than "contact the dealer."
I then missed a call from my service manager, we'll call him Jim. Called him back and he mentioned that he had heard back from his Ford Engineer friend. Jim said that he explained my driveline lash/clunk noise to him, and told the engineer he was even able to find videos confirming what I was telling him on YouTube. Jim says the engineer couldn't believe it, he said it just doesn't make any sense. The engineer is actually going to visit a dealership tomorrow and crawl around under some trucks and see what he can figure out, per Jim. Jim also said that he would be willing to show the engineer my shift noise video from YouTube, so that was pretty encouraging. Like I've said before, so far, the dealership has been pretty cool about this whole thing. I just really hope that they can either fix these issues, or we can get some SOLID written proof from a Ford Engineer what's going on with these issues plaguing us. I'm not really interested in a replacement at this point, I think if we got to that point, I'd pursue a buyback (I really don't want to go through the hassle though) and then just hang on to my money and really test drive the crap out of everything before deciding what to do next. It's cold here right now so it's pretty much windows up, the few times I've tried to go windows down, the noises just bother me and I roll them back up, when then makes the shifting whine louder, I can't win! I also told Jim that at this point, I'm so frustrated (feels good to let that out, instead of just trying to fake my acceptance, like in the previous "happy" post) by the whole thing that I'd honestly just take my Ram back if they still had it. Jim was a little surprised by that.
The saga continues, looks like it's gonna be back to the Exploder for me next week! Boo

Also...I know what you mean about driving the wife crazy with it...she literally asked me if I could just go roll it on a lake with thin ice to be done with it a few weeks ago.
Here's a vid of the truck on a cold-start idling and manually shifting between 1-2. I can hear it engage 2nd gear when I manually shift into 2, it makes no noise going back to 1. No whine at idle, while shifting, or under load that I've noticed. 4200miles, and a 2.7 Lariat. 06/18 build-date out of Deerborn.
Edit - just wanted to add that this video is inside my garage with the door halfway down, so any noises are extremely amplified. Anyway - hope this helps

I'll record a video of it in motion next time I drive it, mine definitely does not whine similar to the vids posted here while moving. I've never really heard the transmission at all, and I am sensitive to weird noises.
No worries man, I do appreciate you taking the time to make the video, it makes me feel alittle better about the shifting sound. My attitude towards it is that if its gonna fail I'm gonna find out lol I drive the ever living hell outa my truck on a daily basis... just glad I got the extended warranty lol
Ah, maybe I misunderstood... I thought you wanted a video at idle, moving from gears 1-2 in Manual mode like FelixTheFord posted.

yes thank you for this, it’s still very helpful!!! I too would like to hear a video when driving. Note that if you’re heavy on the throttle, the shift whine is considerably quieter. For example, in my video, I’m just driving through my neighborhood. Taking off gently and holding steady throtttle like I drive normally. Also, the whine at idle and shifting is only there when the trans is FULLY warm. Until it’s warm, it shifts and idles perfectly quiet.
It would’ve been pretty much impossible for Ford QC to catch these issues though, IMHO. I would imagine they don’t warm every single truck up completely when it rolls off the line. Probably just start it, drive it to trailer/rail car, then off to dealer.

I also forgot to mention that this morning, pulling out of my driveway, that the truck slipped again, wouldnt do anything but rev in drive, then once I let the RPMs back down, it went into gear. Didn't slam hard this time, like its done twice before, but still "slipped" gears nonetheless. And naturally, it was RIGHT before I started recording that video...boo!
Has this transmission slip issue happened to anyone else? What was the solution?
