If you know any reputable transmission shops in the area, it might be worth checking one out for a second opinion. Like I said...all the symptoms you have are symptoms of fluid either being low, improper viscosity, or something else hydraulic related. A lot of shops will turn you away simply because it's under warranty and they most likely know they won't get the work...but a good one may be willing to help you out if you pay the diagnostic fee.

I'm also an engineer...and I too don't like noises...it's not OCD either although the dealership likes to tell me that I am. Still...I know the difference between one that's normal and one that's not...and that noise is not normal. In the end...whether you're an engineer, OCD, or not is somewhat irrelevant. Most of it just comes down to appreciating a vehicle that doesn't sound like crap.

The SSM for the whine in P/N states that a "slight" whine is normal due to offset gears... What is considered slight? I came across a Raptor owner who said that changing the vane pump gear dramatically reduced the sound. I heard the gear change whine on a mustang with the 10R80, but it was no where near as loud as mine. Are these "normal" noises, but abnormally loud on some trucks?

For what it's worth, here is the Ford corporate customer service # (800) 392-3673.

Right now, I would reccomend that people stay away from the 5.0.

Yeah, you'd think that with my 3.5 in the shop for over a month I'd be going 3.5 for my next one right? Not so sure...all these noises, coupled with reports of the 5.0 drinking so much oil...yeah IDK.

Checking the fluid level sounds like a good idea. I need to check mine.

I know Ford is using a new trans fluid in the 10R80 that is pretty thin. The sounds really come out as the trans warms up (fluid gets thinner).

I was looking to see if the GM version has the same complaints...it does not appear that way....and then was looking to see if they are using the same ultra low viscosity fluid and they are (at least from what I can tell Mercon ULV). I'm trying to figure out the other difference other than the calibration (which was supposed to be one of the only differences between the 10L80 and 10R80). If line pressures are not where they should be, it could also cause the noise.

I've heard that GM was putting more sound deadening material around the transmissions bays. I know some Camero owners complained of the whine in P/N, but not the gear change whine...

Yeah I've been doing as much research as possible too, other vehicles that have the 10R80, and I can't find a damn thing aside from most of the forums on here or on the other F150 site. I really think I'm just going to keep being the squeaky wheel with the dealership and Ford. They're gonna have to make it right. But I guess they can just tell me to pound sand right?

I've already opened up a case with Ford. I couldn't even get the dealership to actually take my truck in and look at it until I reached out to Ford proper.

Mike I've read those complaints too and watched some videos. To be honest, the whine in P/N doesn't really bother me all that much, its the squeeling pig that I'm dragging around for shifting that bothers me. We also have a camper, and I'm worried it'll make me blow my top when I tow with it for the first time. I was in horror when I read your mention that it was "screaming at the campground...."

Mine was built in Dearborn 01/17/18 and sounds identical to yours. Has anyone anywhere actually posted a video of a silent 10speed? Do they really exist or is it that some just dont notice the noise?(not bashing anyone and if they truly do have a silent 10speed the should buy a lotto ticket lol). Mabe if I had an eco I could just tell people it's the turbos lol. I can honestly say I never noticed the deceleration rattle untill I read about it and went looking for it lol. Mabe if someone has a silent or less noisy 10speed they could please be so kind as to make a short video of the manual shifting and idel, then I can arm myself with proof against the service dept.

+1, that would be absolutely amazing if someone would do that.
