2018 5.0L with Multiple Problems
I have a 2018 5.0 with the shrieking 10 speed tranny.
I sympathize with anyone who is driven nuts by noises that should not be in their vehicle( I am very much an oyster )
Mine has never slipped that I can remember, I have had a couple really ****ty/clunky delayed shifts from 3-5 at low vehicle speed under very light throttle.
( The harder I drive this thing the better the trans shifts, when I floor it the 10 speed is absolute flawless! )
Two things I did that helped with the noise: for some reason the 5.0 trucks don't come with the splash sheild/diaper insulation mat under the tranny
I added this to my truck and it helped a little with the noise.
The other thing I did yesterday was have the Borla S type exhaust installed. Now I don't hear the damn whining trans near as much.
I am not trying to be funny hear, and NO you shouldn't have to install a louder exhaust to mask an awful noise, but I did and I am much happier now.
Like it or not, when a few vehicles make an unusual noise it's a problem, when just about all of them do it's normal.
One last thought, these trucks are pretty awesome with 10 speed autos and 400 hp V8s( or 395 or whatever),
If my truck were built by lexus the 10 speed tranny would undoubtedly be silky smooth and quiet, and the 400hp V8 would not use a drop of oil,
and I would not be able to afford to buy one.
I am not saying Ford shouldn't have done better, but the kind of performance and fuel economy these trucks deliver would have been science fiction 10 years ago.
EDIT originally posted when I was half done typing by accident.

This! I was thinking about just asking the dealer to install that splash shield for me. Did you just buy it? Or were you able to get them to install it?
I continue to see such a common thread about these noises, and a lack of fix, that as long as my truck quits slipping, and no other drivebaility stuff pops up. I may just deal. There’s really no other truck I want. Period. They’re all lacking something that this one has. And this one gave me everything I really “needed” for towing that my Ram didn’t have

Slipping transmissions, whining gear shifts, whining while driving...these are all symptoms of pressure issues and cavitation ( the high pitch whining while driving is the pump gear). Has anyone actually checked their fluid level? I say this because as much as a dealership says they've checked the fluid level, there's a good chance they're lying. Admitting low transmission fluid on a new transmission, while it's still under warranty, will open Pandora's box for the dealership...so they just don't do it. If the fluid level is normal....it's most likely the pump failing prematurely or was defective right away.
If you decide to check it yourself, make sure you look at the procedure for doing it otherwise you'll end up with a misleading result.

I bought one off of ebay for about $40.00 and made my own brackets after crawling under one at the dealer to take pictures.
If I had it to do it over again I would go to the dealer and try to buy the brackets, the two on each side toward the back were easy to bend out of aluminum,
but the front bracket I had to cobble together by bolting two pieces of angle together.
It worked good, but looks kind of dumb when you crawl under it.

This is what I could find. The main thing is making sure the temp is up to normal operating temperature as specified in the procedure. Also note the A and B sections on the dipstick. I also wouldn't fill it yourself. If you find that it's low, take it to the dealership and address it with them...although I would maybe not admit that you know it's low because you checked it.

gopherman,
Your right the dealers wouldn't admit the fluid was low,
they would be filling it up and then lying about.....
service advisor on the phone: '' You can come and pick up your truck now, problem solved, we did a reflash on the tcm ''
But seriously, I would tend to think that after thousands of unhappy customers Ford would have figured out by now that they were under filling
all these 10 speeds from the factory.
In general, I agree with you 100%, dealers tend to not check anything that requires them to do more than pull a stick out.

My thinking is , since this is a known issue for Ford ,
it almost unfathomable that their own engineers wouldn't figure this out.
It would be hilarious if all these trannys were noisy just because Ford is to dumb to have anyone check
