2017 Sync 3 update
Due to Apple's commitment to user privacy, CarPlay collects very little data from users and car manufacturers. According to information released by Porsche, Apple only collects information on whether a car is accelerating while CarPlay is in use.
This is in stark contrast to Android Auto, which collects a lot more car data when in use. Google collects vehicle speed, oil and coolant temperature, throttle position, and engine revs, constituting "a full OBD2 dump whenever someone activates Android Auto."

I get your point regarding Android/Google and it's snarfing of data, but the Geek in me wishes just a tiny little bit that Google would allow all that data to be piped to a Dashboard on my phone. I've love to watch and track stats like that over the long run piping the data natively from OBD2 to the infotainment system and into an App on my phone.

If true, Android probably does this to allow future implementation of OBDII apps like torque that read and display things similar to scangauge.
The fact that there is no CarPlay info in there possibly means that Ford did not start putting the new USB hardware in yet on the line, and may be there is another update (2.1?) that supports CarPlay that they are waiting to deploy.
Whatever the case is at this point, Ford must know the plan now for some time... I just don't understand why it has not been made known to 2016 owners who have been promised this update for months. And why, at least, 2016 owners cant get the upgrade and use Android Auto if they want to right now. For it to be on the Sync 3 hardware on the line, as the FORD ISV team has stated on here, it would have been loaded weeks or months before that at the place that makes the Sync unit... not at the assembly line. So this version did not just popup on the unit this week.
