Y pipes NOT the same the 5.8 is a wider motor at the heads! And if your motor the 5.0 is an ho motor (351fireing order) then your computer will work fine

The head bolt holes on the GT40 heads will need to be drilled from 7/16" to 1/2" since the head bolts on a 351 are larger.

Curious - Why are you wanting to upgrade to a larger engine? I know you're set on upgrading, but I'm a fan of a good stout 302.

Another thought: Seeing that the truck is a 96, if you wanted to continue to go the 302 route, you have some flexibility (MAF) that someone like me with a 90 wouldn't have.

If my truck had MAF, I would easily have a 350hp 302 under the hood....and that would probably be on the low side of things...24lb injectors, a good torquey camshaft such as comp cams XE258-HR14/35-512-8 or a custom cam and a set of aluminum heads (AFR165, TW170 or ST 5.0R) or ported GT40s.

I'm making a case to keep the 5.0, but for some, there's not replacement for displacement. Just trying to put some suggestions out there if your 302 is getting tired.
