Default CAI system

Ok, so i went to my local autozone and they have all the stuff to make an airaid custom air intake fairly cheap....except for a y pipe, which i need to maintain the cheap aspect of it. They got the pipe and several different elbows. Instead of having to get a ypipe, how good would this work with just 2 pipes and possibly an elbow or 2: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...%26+Drivetrain ?
Also how big of a difference do you think it would make in mpg, hp, and sound?

What are you supposed to do with that? Clamp it right to the throttle body? That's not exactly a direct bolt on like it says.

I like the setup I saw here on someone elses truck. Two K+Ns with two separate pipes.

Erm... Most of these trucks have a throttle body with 2 hoses running over to the air filter box, you just replace the old, restrictive box with this simple filter.... not right on the TB.....

Here's the years listed it is compatible with, I think these all have dual air intake tubes:

1988-1996: XL; 6 Cyl 4.9L;
1988-1996: XL; 8 Cyl 5.0L;
1988-1996: XL; 8 Cyl 5.8L;

To the OP, I think you would see some sort of MPG and HP increase but, your exact setup, what ever it may end up being, hasn't been dyno'ed so, it's hard to say. I'd venture a guess that you'll hear the intake, notice it in the exhaust and pick up a few ponies at a minimum.

Go for it!

There is no way that will make a decent seal on the cheap plastic pipes coming from the throttle body.

Probably not alone. The OP may be able to put some of that pipe they found inside of both with clamps or even use that rubbery intake tube couplers... where there's a will there's a way...

I just watched TruckU and they showed some guy had made a custom intake with dryer tubing, waaay tacky and I wouldn't do it but, it was a cheap CAI....

I made one out of 3" PVC for my S10, with a K+N on the end.

couldnt you just get like the aluminum piping for exhaust? It would serve the same function, just get the ends to fit a filter and to the filter box? Its would look better than pvc too. I am kinda wanting to do that now, but filters cost too much, would just a diff name cold air intake filter work good too?

Exhaust pipes wouldn't have worked for my application.

The S10 was a carbureted 2.8. I swapped in a fuel injected 3.1 from a Firebird. The spot the throttle body ended up in wasn't very roomy. I had to curve it up over the engine with two 90s.
