They don't last as long, but if you have a hole in your piston, so what if your plugs "could" have gone another 50K before changing!
Whats the difference between MAP and MAF, how do i know which 1 i have( its a 90 f150 w/ 302), if it is a map how do i convert to maf?

I would have to respectfully direct you to K&N's website

Cause they can lean out Stock engines, especially MAP's! That way you can't blame them when you burn a hole in your piston or burn up a valve, as you were not using for it's intended purpose "Racing!"). Map's work off a limited air intake range, based on manifold air density, not the actual amount of air flow through the air intake. Because the fuel adjusts to air but cannot further adjust above that range (by increasing fuel), you go lean. MAF, however, does monitor & adjust, based on actual air flow passing through the air intake. The ECU demands and maintains 14.68:1 air to fuel ratio to begin with and becomes over lean even by 15:1. Thats why w/ MAF & CAI it will keep adjusting Fuel to air til you run out of injector before you run lean & MAP's lean out long before that! Conversion kits are $700-1000. You can Boneyard the items from donor trucks for $100 - 200, but good luck w/ that!

A Note to Everyone:

Mass Air Flow started in 1994, if your truck was built before that year, it is NOT Mass Air Flow, it is Speed Density/MAP

Nobody said, they (CAI's) don't develop more HP. The issue is the engine surviving it, specifically MAP's. Although their are some 94' MAF F-150's out there (All of the ones licensed in Ca. that year among others), plug in any year, any engine prior to 95' (because they're almost all MAP's) into their Products for vehicle match on that same page and what are you offered??? Oh, my! nothing but drop in hi -flo filters replacements. Which I use & recommend in my 87' MAP truck. Also respectfully. In 95' & newer MAF's, you have lots of options & not all specified "for racing only." Which means if you put one on your truck &you fry cylinders, you can bitch about it. There are MAP conversions offered for 95's, but none of the trucks mentioned in the thread so for are 95's.

Things say "for racing use only" or "for off-road use only" because they haven't been cleared for use by C.A.R.B. It won't pass smog with that on.
