Default Quick 5 speed question.

On the my 1992 f150 with 5.0 and 4x4 with the mazda 5 speed, what is the name of the part that the shift forks and shifter is attached too on the top of the transmission. Was gonna try to track one down in a junkyard this week. Thanks.

The shift forks are attached to the round tubes that are in the top plate of the tranny!

Top plate, top cover, whatever. Why do you need the cover?

Well I think I have a problem with mine. I replaced the shift fork for the 3-4 and it worked for about a day but when i would first drive it, it would grind when going into 3. Now its back to square one, as in now it only goes into 1-2 and nothing else. Maybe thing to replace all rails and those pieces in the top plate. I dunno i am stuck at the moment.

Edit: Ok looking at a parts breakdown i think i might be missing the springs and the ball in the rails. could this be causing it maybe?
http://www.manualtransmission.net/m5...case_fork.html I think it might be the 76,77,78 parts on here.

First year for the M5OD was '88. The 1-2 fork wears more than the 3-4 fork.

i believe he was responding to member 87-f150, since he should not have the mazda 5-speed.

Now, my trans sometimes doesnt engage 2nd or 3rd so it grinds when i release the clutch. Would the shift forks be the likely problem?
