Default The little engine that couldn't

With 86K+ miles on the truck, it is having a performance issue. With the cruise control set, it "chugs" when it comes under load like a slight grade.. During these incidents, my boost gauge shows the boost coming in to play so the gauge is climbing and then drops off suddenly and then restarts to climb. Every "chug" is accompanied by the boost falling off quickly. Is this a sign that the turbos are going out or that it is getting fuel starved so the fuel pump is starting to fail? No warnings are coming up on my dash so I don't want to take it in and pay for the diagnostic to see if any codes are being thrown. Can it throw codes that don't illuminate warnings? (PowerBoost)
If I accelerate hard, boost come up and the truck functions normally with full boost.

Sounds like it may have misfires going on, have the spark plugs been changed yet? Get a scanner or batter yet ForScan and scan for codes. My Challenger had the same situation going on with no dash light errors and I scanned it with and found misfires that hadn't set the CEL off yet. Good luck.

BTW, see if it does it while in Sport mode, my Challenger would not exhibit the same symptoms while in Sport Mode but would in Normal mode.

How many issue-free miles have you driven since the work was done? If this is your daily and you drive the average 20-25k/year, then youve put approx 15k miles on the new plugs. I would find it hard to believe theyve gone south already. Start with scanning the truck to see if there are any pending codes.

Left field opinion. The F150s are over-geared in drive shifting into too high a gear and cruising in a "lugging" condition. What gear is this happening and what RPM? Slight accelerations between 1500 and 2000 put the engine in a knocking state. Simple fix is to lock out high gears when they are not needed. Like a manual transmission and down-shifting. Ecoboost are particularly prone to this. KM

Yesterday it was Interstate driving at 75 mph so probably 1600-1700 rpm. I've had the truck for 4 years and it never did it until about 3 months ago. I've always driven interstates in normal mode w/cruise control set so 10th gear/no gears locked out. Something has definitely changed in the past 3-4 months.

If the truck is connected to the Ford app, message me the VIN and I can pull any codes it is reporting to Ford's cloud.

As said that's a left field observation. Spent too many years in peaky torque, small engine, manual transmission vehicles and under 2000 RPM seem right in the range, espesially at 75 MPH, where torque is not up to the task and you are tickling the boost to maintain speeds. But that is my way of driving even an automatic transmission. KM
