Trailer Brake Controller issue
I have a 2018 F150 also. I just installed the OEM Ford trailer brake controller on Monday. I ordered it from Fairway Ford in Ohio. I've bought many parts from them in the past, because they give hefty discounts on OEM parts and mail them for the actual USPS cost. The part was in an unopened box, so I'm sure it is brand new. Took it to my Ford dealership to get it programmed yesterday. Tech couldn't get it to program. It throws a fault code every time. First thing they were saying is that the controller is bad. I was even taken back to the tech and he had his computer plugged in and showed me what was happening. We had a lengthy discussion regarding this issue and many other of Fords programing bugs. It really opened my eyes to how Ford doesn't have a good handle on the complex issues of these vehicle computer parameters.
They are going to talk to the Ford "hotline". I've heard this from them before on my auto stop/start function. It doesn't work except for the occasional times. It's quite aggravating with it's random functioning. If it didn't work all the time I'd be fine with that.
My truck has the 30a fuse is in place from the factory.
Now my truck throws a fault code for the trailer brake controller every time I start my truck. I just find it hard to imagine that a OEM part would be bad right out of the box. And the thought of having to tear the dash apart again to get the controller out is aggravating as my truck has the center console making it more of a pain to do.

Most people go online to find solutions to problems, not praise the parts on their vehicles that work without issue. Finding a handful of threads on one specific problem can make it seem like most are having that problem. This forum in particular has thousands actively viewing at any given time, an active membership in the tens of thousands, and a lifetime membership of over 300,000 people.
Product forums magnify issues, because of those that are not having issues, very few will seek out a forum to discuss the product.

So I ordered the JL3Z-2C006-AA controller and the correct fuse. Plugged everything in, made the changes with Forscan and can confirm that everything worked as it should. Towed about 4000 lbs this past weekend and the TBC worked flawlessly. I'm so glad that I found this thread. Thanks to everyone that contributed.

have you had any luck ?? I’m pulling my hair out here...
Today I was tinkering with he truck on my day off. I hd to replace the horn due to just the high note working.
I also ordered a new plug for the rear for the truck for the trailer. I swapped it in, noticed no difference be decided to play with the backup assist. Then went for a quick ride. HOLY CRAP. 10 on the gain setting puts you tru the windshield and locks the brakes up. I guess the trailer brakes do work. Bu maybe only while moving? Nothing looks wrong with the old trailer plug but I'll leave the new one on there till I hook to the truer again, and swap back to the original one just to see if it makes any difference

I too recently installed an oem tbc in my 2015 here is what is enabled in forscan.
trailer brake control module
trailer brake controller gain setting
trailer brake module.
ive tried the way the video said by just enabling the 1 option. I have all the fuses and relays for towing. Just my previous trailers never had brakes.
I see the gain on my cluster and am able to increase it. But the trailer brake doesn’t engage even when using the slider.
I get a pop up no trailer connected...
any ideas?

I have that same fault. Not even sure why it’s there. I reset it and get it to go away but even then the tbc doesn’t work.
