Windshield Tint?

Haha. I'm just trying to do 50% on the windshield. Anybody have pics of a 50% windshield? Trying to make it as least obvious as possible that the windshield is tinted. I like the 5% strip I have now so I'm going to either go 50% with a "less aggressive" straight 5% strip that dosent go low on the sides. Or just going to keep the 5% curved strip I have now and not tint the rest of the windshield. Either way, I want the visor strip to fully cover the center visor area. My current tint shop can't cut a contoured one since they don't have a computerized cutter and cut by hand. So I got the curved kind and went as high as I could without looking stupid with the high point of the arch right at the bottom of the center factory visor.

Nice! Any problems with the 50% windshield? As far as visibility or attention from the cops? I went 30% on my fronts, my state is 35%, which means with factory tint, you gotta tint it like 50%. I did 20% over the rears. Got them dark but the 30% over the front made the backs look light so went back and did the 20 over the rears. Wouldn't want any darker. I'm fine with the mismatch, better than factory and looks legal. Same idea would apply to running 50% on the windshield and then running a 5% strip on top. Don't want it to become a cop magnet. Just trying to figure out how dark 50% on the windshield is before taking the plunge.

Ive ran several different tint setups and i feel the 20% on the sides and 50% windshield is the best setup to give you the heat and glare reduction but keeping it low key as far as cops. Like you stated though, any trained eye can notice a tinted windshield regardless. The 50% shield and black interior even makes the 20% front doors look like 5% at some angles.
I also ran a 35% windshield with a 6" 5% brow and 5% on the doors. The brow takes your eye away from the fact that the entire shield is tinted but it is pretty notceable on overcast days.
It is also weird that when you have the windshield tinted it makes your eyes think the side windows arent as dark from the insideatleast IMO.

I have 30% sides. And 20% over the privacy rears. Wouldn't want to go anymore than 50% on the windshield. Usually the rule with the visor strip is down to the AS1 line. Currently have the curved one since the one shop I'm using can't cut a curve in the opposite direction on the bottom since they do it by hand. I told them to do it to the AS1 line and they brought me back and showed me. The curve would go off the top center of the windshield if you made it legal. Wouldn't be worth it and would not look good. I told them to bring the peak of the curve down to the bottom of the Factory visor putting It 3-3.5" below AS1 on the sides. It looks legal as it is. But if I have 50% on the windshield as to draw even less attention, ill find a shop who can do a straight one to the bottom of the visor and probably would be close to the AS-1 line.

I decided I'm going to hold off. Tinting the whole windshield even 50% is illegal everywhere. Any amount of tint on the windshield. I would do the Lumar Air Blue 80 but can't justify the price if the windshield needs replacement plus I think the blue hue it adds looks stupid. Best looking would be 35% on the windshield . But, for practical use on a daily driver, I think I'll just stick with an untinted windshield with the 5% glare strip I have on already. If the windshield gets cracked or if im told I have to take it off, it's only $40 vs $140 for tinted full windshield plus strip then $40 for a strip again. Almost $200. And more if it's a ticket plus maybe a tow truck. A tinted windshield can really get you in trouble in some places. I think the windshield strip dosent look bad as long as you don't run it too low. Just to the bottom of the Factory visor above the mirror is just right IMO. Doing the entire windshield in even 50% looks obvious probably due to the shallow slope of the windsheild. On a older vehicle with a steeper windshield, you could probably get away with it IMO.

The last time I had my front window tinted I did 50% and found it to be perfect IMO. Years ago I went with 20% on my front window and it was to damn dark especially when it was foggy outside.

I dont have inspections here other than emissions. But, trouble is I might get by around here but if I decide to take a roadtrip somewhere far, then I'm going through difference jurisdictions. Yeah the tint on the front side windows can be debated, but tint on the windshield other than the top strip is a no-no anywhere. Yeah I agree 50% is light and it's completely safe. I've driven a buddy's truck with 35% on the windshield and it was fine at night. But it can look obvious from the outside IMO if you have a overcast day. You risk your insurance dropping coverage in the event of a accident even if not your fault also.
I have a friend who's a cop. He advised me not to tint the windshield even at 50%. He said the Front windows being too dark or a windshield strip being a few inches too low would probably be fine but not to tint the entire windshield. But then I know people that run 35-50% on the windshield even getting pulled over for other things and having no problem with tint. For sure, a tinted car is much more likely to get hassled than a truck. But just seems like at least around here, you can get away with running 5% all around but get busted with tint on the windshield other than a strip is a guaranteed ticket.
