Question 5.4 engine tick

I have a 2006 F150 V8 triton that is ticking extreamly bad! A technician at a Ford store told me it sounds like my left bank lifters need to be replaced...is there anything I can try before dumping a ton of money into this major repair that might work to quiet it down?

With the cam phasers does the ticking change or go away upon acceleration?

(IMO) for what ever it is worth, lolI would ask myself, can I afford to take the chance on additives to the engine that could further cause problems?I personally would take the truck to a few different Ford dealers, go in & speak to the service manager of each & ask them to listen to the truck & ask their opinion as well as cost to repair or diagnose to be certain of issue. A few different Dealers would offer you some idea of the problem as well as a dealer who seems to care about your issue. alot also depends on the engine miles, how the truck has been driven over the few years it has been born, if regular maintinance has been maintained as should be, proper oil used for oil changes, (these newer engines it is important to have the proper oil / antifreeze compared to older vehicals), etc, etc.It is never a good place to be when you have an unknown engine problem, but it does happen, so to me the best thing to do is try & find out what caused the issue, the proper way to make the needed repair, then decide what lesser cost options are availible without causing further, more serious damage. Please do let us know the end results please?

2nd and 3rd even 4th opinions would be the route I would take first. Then find a reasonable/trusted shop to fix it.

Question

I appreciate everyones advise! Can someone tell me what the cam phasers are? The problem I am running into is that I am a single mother of two and really cant afford something to happen to the motor nor can I afford to dump all kinds of money into it! Does anyone know of a repair shop in the New Orleans area they would recomend?

Don't get too worked up too soon, the 5.4s are noisy engines.

Thank...I will watch it as soon as I can! I think I am getting so worried because it has gotten louder and is very distinctive while idling and accelerating...not to mention all of the horror stories I have heared!
