lol, ok on a serious note here, (not being a smart *****, just curious, someone could inspect your cam phasers but could not tell an exhaust leak from the sound???

Anyhow, back up some wheres here, (I do believe), I suggested you take it to a muffler shop & they typically inspect for free & as soon as you let them hear it running they will tell you if it is or isn't an exhaust leak. IMO there is no mistake in the sound of a manifold leak. --=shrug

Wish ya luc & hope you finger it out soon

First take to a muffler shop and have them take a listen to save you money encase it is just the muffler .

I to was running motorcraft 5w20 with my engine tick.Talked to my best friend who is a certified mechanic and he heard that the tick is a common problem and said to try fully synthetic oil to rule out.Switched to Castrol Syntec fully synthetic 5w20 and after working thru the engine, tick was gone and has never come back since. That was almost 3 years ago.Now i switched over to Royal Purple and still no tick.Good luck and def let us know.

What type again do you recomend and does your truck have a lot of miles on it? What year? I just worry changing because of course the dealer says "these engine are very touchy and you have to make sure you continue with the factory recomended oil" lol!!! Please let me know!!! Thanks a bunch!!!

I used Castrol Fully Synthetic oil(comes in a black bottle,a quart at wall mart is $6.68)Miles are at 62K.Its a 2007.N yes your dealer is going to say something like that(most do because it's there job and its to cover there *** for what they learned in training). In all actual reality you can switch to a fully synthetic oil and you will be fine.If you go to any fully synthetic brand, the friction modifier is already in there(by what i have been told).

Also did the salesman tell you there very touchy engines?Or did the actual tech tell you that?

Cool thanks for the info! I have had a couple techs tell me as well as a service advisor, but hey its worth a try! My miliage is right near yours...68K!!! Grrrrrr Ford is wrong for making these motors!!! How long after you began using the synthetic did you notice the tick go away? And did you use any additives?
