From the factory it was designed with such little wheel travel geometry is the least of concerns. I want a Dixon Mid travel setup, but with out the +4.5" track width.

Better be one strong upper hoop mount

The problem with going with coil overs is there is to much flex in front of the factory frame. You would need a engine cage to help prevent it from cracking the frame. It was something that was addressed in the 04+ trucks.

I have been thinking about this. But to be honest the torsion bars do a great job from the factory. I'll be giving my truck to the girlfriend once I find a truck to replace mine.

Anything further on this? I have been thinking along the same lines, including seeing if you could reasonably fab up 04+ coilover suspension on 97-03 trucks somehow... My 03's torsion bars are looking pretty rough after 8 New England Winters...

Yes, this could definitely be done, but I would not suggest using the stock control arms or frame mounts...

A coilover of the correct rates and height could easily be installed by use of new fabbed reinforced frame mounts and fabricated control arms...

Other than that the stock stuff wouldn't cut it in my eyes, gotta be safe, there's other people and families that travel the same roads we do...

So I say yes, but if you can't fabricate these parts yourself, it will probably get quite spendy...

Post Any news?

Did a conversion ever get completed? Any news? I was of maybe not a full conversion, but rather keeping the torsion bars and enhancing ride quality with coilovers where the shocks are mounted. Maybe the strutmasters kit for the 02 Expedition? Is it worth looking into?
