But now that everything is fixed and cleaned out I am getting 18-19 mpg city a s close to 22-25 mpg highway. Saving me a helluva lot of gas money. Thought I needed to change plugs but they weren't the cause of my probes. Stupid bolts and gasket lol. Here In near future I am goin change the fuel filter just cause I want to. Can't hurt.

Just wondering. What do y'all think about seafoam. Did it once and nothing much. Just thinking maybe since its all cleaned out egr ports a d such would it help to try it again. Last time I did it I didn't get much smoke or water from exhaust at all. Might been cause it didn't get into where it was suppose to go since engine was clogged up and sucking air so to speak. Your thoughts??

Back on track. I am happy now how truck is running and can feel more of the pep. Yeah I I is just a 4.2. But I feel it came more alive since fixed it.

Now to just fix the pesky oil leak between the motor and tranny. The gasket is bad now. Err. Not leaking bad. Truck sat for a weak and maybe a spot as big as a round doughnut was on ground. I just keeping checking oil every other day.

Ok so a lil update turned into a big one srry. LOLOL.
What's the plenum gasket? My truck on occasions has an idle that will bounce from 450-750 rapidly only in park or neutral tho.

The plenum gasket is under the upper intake. It is common for then to need replaced on a V6 due to the isolator bolts coming loose a bit. Have to replace the bolts and plenum at same time. Also if you have a V6 and get the lean codes showing ya need to replace BOTH O2 sensors that is a good indication the the bolts and gasket need replaced. It was for me anyway. I'm no pro mechanic I'm just a do it yourself guy and learn as I go. Hope this helps answer your question.

It does, thanks.. But I have the 5.4 gas hog and it's annoying as hell using all that gas money when I only tow a small jet boat 10-15 times a year when I know a v6 will tug just fine!

The V6 4.2 is a strong tough engine in my opinion. I've pulled large flat trailers load down with furniture. Pulled up hills fine. Also had my longbed load to the max when I moved from Texas back to ohio where i had the springs just about flat. It handled it fine even cruising at 70mph. Now that I got the bolts and gasket fixed and cleaned the egr ports out while intake was off I am averaging 18-20 mpg in the city and 22-25 on highway. It may not be the fastest truck out there but it's got ALOT of pep back now and I am very happy with it. Some people on here under estimate and talk bad about the 4.2l but all in all from my experience its a tough engine.

I think the reason people don't like them is because of the plenum gasket

My dads friend has an 04 2wd short bed 5 speed with the 4.2 an it'll lay down some rubber into 2nd gear! It has the 97-03 body style but it's an 04, I haven't seen or heard of that till he brought his home.

Ok I know I'm probably opening a can of worms here BUT. what is y'all's thoughts on the little metal twist in spring spacers????? Any good? How safe?? Just trying to think of a quick easy cheap way to level front till I get new spindles. I don't offroad any. If that matters. I used to in Texas yet to find anywhere here in the city of akron ohio lol. I know some of ya will say just wiat till get the spindles. I've thought about it. Just curious if anyone has used the twist in spacers. Your thoughts PLZ. Thanks

My brother used em n a 01 maxima since it was lowered an if people got n the back it would cut a groove n the tires from the fender well. It didn't lift the car at all they just make the springs stiffer
