My dad had to talk me into buying my ford if there was a dodge (hemi only which is 04+ I believe?) or a Chevy for the same price an options and my ford I would have picked either of them before my truck. But now it would have taken me hrs and hrs of stressful deliberating between the Chevy and ford. I would be very torn and probably regret the decision no matter what decision I made. But my ford has made me a believer in ford before none of my family would buy a ford but now they will consider fords when looking for vehicles. And people say dodges trannys are junk but mine along with more than half this forum has a new/rebuilt/reman tranny so a kettle calling the pot black.
My former f150 had 300k on it with the stock tranny & 0 problems. My current F150 tranny has 187k on it turning 37" tires and yet again, 0 problems. Maybe I'm just lucky. Most trannys will last a long time with the proper maintenance. I've never heard of ford having any where near the problems Chrysler trannies have.

I know it doesn't mean much, but the PSDs and Dmaxes hardly ever have a CEL on. It's quite obvious how much more of them have the CEL on. I don't want a brand new truck with the CEL on already.

I've seen people have tremendous luck with late 90s Chryseler products, and others have horrible luck with Toyotas and Hondas. Any vehicle can have issues, and any could be that magical 3 legged unicorn with a 4 leaf clover tattooed on its *** that hits 300k miles on just oil changes. You just never know.

As far as rebuilt trannies, gas and diesel are super different, as you know. I think it's pretty much a consensus that amongst diesel autos, Dodge's is the worst and least reliable. Again, the newer the better, but the older ones suck.

I know not every 10th gen f1 has tranny problems. But mine went out at 140k and my scabs went out at 220k. And these were flushed every 45k. But I used them like their supposed to be. I was pulling atleast once a week loaded tool trailers dump trailers and cars. Lol and I know so many people on here that have a rebuilt tranny on here. My trannys builder said the 4r70w is a solid tranny after you update it and put a shift kit in. He said if you can get one before 100-120k that's been maintained throw 2-300 dollars into it and it will last longer than the trucks. And as far as cel it was just because it was the first year of the 6.7 so it still had some real world kinks to be worked out. I know 2 guys that have got rid of their 6.4 cause they were having so many troubles with them about like the 6.0s you gotta put 3k into it to get a good running truck. Which is worse than buying a new truck and having a cel on. And 1 guy that got rid of his 6.7 psd cause of troubles. Mainly the plastic intercooler pipe would shatter and all those pieces would go into the motor and grenade it. And on the 6.7 psd his truck is already falling apart and it's got less that 36k on itS and idk if it's everywhere but our ford dealership is over 2 months behind on warranty work. And I am buddy's with a owner of the biggest diesel shop here in bozeman. And he said 95%+ of his work is psd. 1% is Chevy. And if a Chevy is in there it's for injectors 9 out of 10. I honestly think the most trouble free even with the brand new motors are Chevy. But cummins is pretty close they just had to work a couple kinks out on the 6.7s. But who cares some people will never buy anything but a ford some Chevy some dodge. As for me I will buy them all. But the only psd I would buy is a 6.7 they are so nasty when deleted.

6.4s are literally bored out 6.0s with better head studs, that's it. So those definitely can have issues.

Part of the intercooler on the driver side of 6.7 Cummins is plastic too. Didn't believe it until a customer showed me.

I don't know how a Ford 6.7 is "falling apart" (what exactly is wrong?) with 36k miles on it. I've seen several with about 80k come out from the oilfield of West Texas that are in fine shape. (We don't keep anything with mileage.)

The 5.4L doesn't and wouldn't ever come close to the performance or mpg of the 6.4L. The resale value is also ALOT more than the 5.4L.

That's a trip... Looks like good info from here. Definitely could use more folks like you who helps others around here, - as much as you have anyway.

Oh I didn't see that.

Shame on you Wayne.

There's a completely separate neck for it RIGHT next to the diesel one . . . at least on the GM's the fill location is under the hood, so you might not be considered completely retarded for putting it in the diesel tank on those.

And twin turbos and many other changes. The block may be bored but that's about the only similarities.
