Thank you for your thoughts. It's been a while. She passed back in 2011, I just couldn't part with anything she/I purchased. She picked them out so I've kept them. We had a great 40 years together. I couldn't of asked for more from a person. Thanks again.

I am interested in what the future holds for this.

 

It is definitely a bit rougher than I thought. It fine on the outside, with only a few scraps or scratches. The interior seat, ds, is totally gone on the base. It is in the bed. Dash is clear of damage, other than the radio being removed. The engine is really smooth, but the transmission has had an additive put in it. That bothers me a bit. It was clean though, even if the pan hasn't been off in some time. Definitely a 4R100.

The biggest problem is the cost of the towing. $250. If I can get a UHaul, they require 3/4'T's here for their car hauler trailers, but IF I tell them it is for moving Side by Sides or 4 Wheelers, I can get one. Guess what I may be hauling. lol

 

They didn't ask me any questions like that when I went to rent one. They didn't ask so I didn't tell. Lol

 

Same here. I have overloaded a U-haul tow dolly more than once. Never did they ask what I was towing or what size my truck was.

 

The main service center here is very adamant about their trailers. I've learned that they always ask her, but when I heard a guy give the side by side use, they had no problem.

Waiting for a call back right now on using a buddies trailer and saving a s/load of money overall. I guess I'm the owner of another 98. lol

 

Must be a friggin' Alaska thing. We wouldn't understand.


They actually do have a hard on for renting anything to Explorer owners because of the Firestone issue. They wouldn't rent me a trailer when I took my Explorer, but the dumb ***** DID let me the next day with my Mountaineer.

EDIT: My Explorer brought out the trailer natzi. NO TRAILER FOR YOU!



However, no natzi was brought out for Mr. Mounty. Go figure.

 

White....That is exactly what they do here. NO Trailer with 1/2 Ton. I nicely explained that it is a 5/8 Ton and showed him the GVW tag, but still no trailer for vehicles. That's when I heard about the side x sides. lol

 

My buddy just came thru and said I could use his trailer. So, NO UHaul. Also, just got off the phone with the truck owner, and we settled for $1100. The rear carrier is totally frozen, so most likely a new housing is needed. I'll know tomorrow when I get it home. I just found a set of Expy seats and console in leather for $150, so that takes care of the interior. I'll use my Navigation head from my teal truck to this one and cover my radio problem.

I'm hoping to pull the cover and find the carrier pin wedged to the housing and not fried bearings. That would mean just a carrier change with gears. Maybe I'll get somewhat lucky on this truck. Time will tell.
