Alaska: all gasoline is ethanol-free. Our fuel is refined here and has additives for our summer and winter climates. We will be changing over to winter fuel in October. We go back to summer blend in late March.

We have Chevron/Standard, Tesoro, Shell, Holiday, 7-11, and Texaco. The funny thing now is that since Flint Hills (Koch Bros) closed due to the cost of the contamination they inherited from Williams, all refining is done by Tesoro. They sell all the fuel in all the pumps in most of the central of AK.

AK- so what is special about "top tier" fuel?- thats the thing going on down here- my take is its just a detergent additive- but i havent researched it either. Is it E free?

I have no idea actually. We had an ethanol additive, for a while, but haven't in many years. I used to remember that stinky gas and smell it everytime I go down to the lower 48 states. It is as obvious as the smell of Greyhound buses at their depots. lol

I honestly can't tell you what makes or breaks it with these fuels. I haven't driven enough with the same type vehicle with e=fuel in some time. One thing we don't have is 91 or 93 octane fuels. It makes some tunes impossible to use to their abilities.

That depends souly on where you go. I've noticed that as well, - only in the big city though.

Are those refineries or stations?

I've been thinking about applying at the Chevron refinery. They are a REALLY good company to work for.

EDIT: On octanes... we have 85, 87, 89, and 91 available here... depending on the station. That ethanol free station has all 4 on tap. I don't believe 85 is very common, but since we are in high altitude, it works out.
