No, it stays connected, BUT, the discreet controller sees the battery changing at 14.4(????) Vdc, and halts charging. My controller seems to be 0.1-0.2 V off, according to my good DVM... and this controller allows me to adjust the charge Vdc max, and min, so no sweat.
I chose a 6-fold, expensive, (was $75, now advert for 80+ but coupons for 5 or 30% exist, if you peel you eyes,) 40 w IP67 unit of about 3 A to do other small appliances. But the glass costs you a lot, so I get a fraction of that, just barely enough. ON the hood, I could point it and max it out.
If I click, Buy-it-Again, I am offered just 20% off. Look up Flexsolar 40, 30% off 79.99. 80-24=56... Mebe you have tax. I ship via Prime.
The controller adds 10-30. Theirs is out of stock and way overkill, lessening efficiency. A $15 elsewhere wiring kit was used. THIS panel has raw 19Vdc out but also two ph ports. Many have a dif mix. You need the raw voltage, to drive a controller,, but I wanted all versatility and ruggedness so I paid 75$ and you can pay 55. I now own two. I can see over this or lay it flat. Suction cups w hooks allows instant unhooking, leaving suction cups in place, no fiddling.

PS; My 01 faces barely east of south on the street w no trees, although sun is not overly strong, just south of San Francisco. I get fog a lil while after the Golden Gate Bridge owing to coastal mtns breaking just 2.2 mi west of me... onshore breeze and all that. If you face north, you have a challenge.
I plan to put a larger, THIN, flexible, 1-piece panel more permanently atop the topper. Some of these are made for boats in dock. I am not sure if any actually "float." I was not impressed by O'Reilliy's $50 offers, but that was some ages ago. Things can change. If no window, good sun, 5-10W *in theory* may be enough.
