> You were spot on with plumbing and flux..sweating. That 's one. Plumbing/sweating is the simplest by far.
*Residential anyway.
Wire or component leg in a PCB thru-connector, same effect. Male and female, just like a pipe. Tool size, timing, details change, naturally. Big fish, lil fish, adjust, adapt. There are some preferred methods, sure, and methodology can help a beginner, or shed liability cuz you used "best practices," but there are multiple ways to skin a cat or solder a thing.
For us, gitter done & flux helps, don't fry the part or the board, remove the flux, and don't get hurt. (Glasses and somehow don't breathe the smoke.) You can reheat solder a couple-few times, then it gets oxidizes and looks and acts frazzled and resists flowing. Suck it away, reflux everything, and try again, once the parts cool a bit. Like anything, you can work it only so many times. I started with a wood burning set. (Not w solder.) No one taught me. You just improve, and it happens very fast. Not harming a PCB thru-hole was my worst issue, and that was v v v rare. And you can succeed and fix him that anyway. Just promise your QA guy a beer, when you are both done. 😉
