Over thinking, maybe? I've only seen it from one angle, but perhaps a simple anti-torque nut? Due to the NIH factor, every brand names their own. Some are precision, but most are intentionally crudely dimensioned. Speed-nuts tend to also be clasping.
Thought there was more to it in the first pic, shadows through me off.
The 98 has a similar style inside the frame rail for the rock guard or splash shield under the radiator or core support. A plate and little threaded bushing deal, hard to see it, They are loose in there if you remove the guard, too big to pull out unless you fish a magnet down the rail from the front. That's the only spot I've seen them anyway.
Speed nuts seems fitting.
Then just regular U clip fasteners for two lower bolts for that guard. I've had t replace those in the past.
Does it stay tight on the Alternator...it must ehh? I don't know, looks like it had another nut on there.
It fits right in the hole on the bracket. Probably goes in 3/8", and that's where the threads reside. Yeah, this might have been an older 150, or possibly an Expy that I got this from. I might go rummage through the stuff at Cal Ranch and see if that have anything.
Thanks everyone!!
That looks like fun, Ohio. Eeeeeek.

This week has been a Ford week so far... Tuesday was trans fluid, oil, and reprogramming the trans on my parents 2012 Escape. Yesterday was all new brakes on my Brothers 2015 Edge. Today is going to be the blower motor in my 06 Escape, and tomorrow is shocks and struts on a 2014 Explorer for a guy at work. Saturday might be a 5R55 trans build on a 2001 Ranger for another guy at work.
The fun of working on old stuff.
Had to drop the axle to change the fuel tank, the pinion seal was leaking for a while so decide to change it and the fluid.
Pulled the rear cover to find pieces of metal on the magnet, and a lot of metallic particles.
Turns out the thrust washers behind the spider gears started to come apart.
Idler arm I've done before, and the old one is off. It's really not too bad. The pitman arm is going to be more fun, though, because the frame is in the way of the nut that holds it to the steering box shaft, but a shallow 32mm socket looks like it *might* work. Heading into town shortly to go pick one up.
EDIT: And I don't care how warm you get the garage, that concrete still *radiates* cold!
