Brew, not broke (I can see what you mean though)... it's actually one that sits up in a frame, but it doesn't clip around the frame - so not quite a clip nut that I am used to. I'll go see if I can get a better picture of it.....
EDIT: I really like this option better than what I have on my 89, which is a clip/speed nut. I've thought about doing a rivnut, but I'm not sure if that's a good option.

"Speed nut" is the only thing I've ever known those to go by. Looks like you could substitute a longer bolt and a regular nut, though. That style there was probably used to speed factory assembly.
EDIT: Was there a standard nut on that before, White? Maybe a locking nut? The "discolored" circle around the bolt makes me wonder.

This is a 3G conversion, so it was not threaded. On a Fox, the alternator is threaded. On a 3.8 V6, the bracket is threaded. So marrying the two together, you have to get threads somehow. I think a regular nut looks out of place there, so every conversion I've done, I try to use a clip/speed nut. I like this option better, and I pulled it out of something at the wrecking yard. I'll be damned if I can remember exactly what I pulled it out of - but it was definitely a Ford SUV or truck.
Oh, and no, there was not another nut on there. I'm not too sure where the discolored circle came from. Good eye.
Thought there was more to it in the first pic, shadows through me off.
The 98 has a similar style inside the frame rail for the rock guard or splash shield under the radiator or core support. A plate and little threaded bushing deal, hard to see it, They are loose in there if you remove the guard, too big to pull out unless you fish a magnet down the rail from the front. That's the only spot I've seen them anyway.
Speed nuts seems fitting.
Then just regular U clip fasteners for two lower bolts for that guard. I've had t replace those in the past.
Does it stay tight on the Alternator...it must ehh? I don't know, looks like it had another nut on there.
