Thinking
Man this thing is a beast, -
Swapped the water pump in the 98 yesterday.
Had two cheater bars on the fan clutch nut to break it loose. The strap wrench on the pulley, -propped against the alternator to hold it in place....which made it hands free and quick! Hard to believe it I didn't break, bend or stretch that thing. ....that nut didn't want to let go .
The king of all strap wrenches for sure.
Had a a HD German made 36mm wrench on the nut....that helped a lot as well, -

Btw, - the bearing was bad on the pump, the pump wasn't leaking coolant yet. The impeller on the old pump looked brand new, absolutely no wear on that. No rust inside motor as well, yea , surprisingly very clean inside.
This stuff isn't cheap, but it does the job well, -
Personally, I think the bearing went due the Gates green belt that was installed over the summer. It's too tight imo, not easy to install. The tensioner isn't maxed out but close to it.

You can save a lot of time removing the clutch fan with an air chisel.

Totally agree about being the fastest way. Unfortunately...doesn't always work out and you can tear up the nut if you push it. Been there done that.
Worth a shot though, if you have one handy.
