We did the same. The large open middle room was my fiances idea. Now that it's finished I'm glad we did it that way.

Did yall go wood or metal trusses? I thought hard but ended up going back with wood.

It's quite a few pages back, like I said I was catching up..something to do while cooking a boat load of homemade lasagna lol.

But wow, you had to take it right down to the shell it looks like. Yea, didn't catch any of those pics. Must of been a mess...so that pic is getting started putting her back together again ?
I was saying that I thought I may have had a picture of the inside after the tear out on my phone but I couldn't find one. After that pic we tore off the front wall and came out to where you see the closest cinder blocks to add 400 ft of heated space. It was a process I don't want to do again if I can help it.

Before the mortgage company and lawyers screwed me I had an addition being built. Me and my father were doing the work. I was at the point of sanding down the mud on the drywall. Had thousands in it before I had to walk away.

What was the worst part? Cleaning out, gutting ? For me, probably drywall, the muding and sanding..the least favorite. Then maybe ceramic tile. I can do without drywall as a final interior wall or ceiling. Use it as a fire stop only and cover it w/wood...knotty pine, board and battin...looks more homey. Still have some old barn wood and beams I want do something with. I had the old beams debugged and cooked (dry kiln whatever they call it). Guess you got to have some dry wall showing. Can't get away from it, but it has it's place.

Yea from the your pic, looked like you were going to add a big porch possibly.

Yeh that's where the porch used to be. We turned all that into living space then built another porch out front. The worst part for me was ripping out the old water logged particle board the PO put in as sub floor. It was black with mold since the vinyl flooring wouldn't let the air dry it out.

Oh and painting. I now hate painting. Lol

I have always lived in a log cabin growing up and this is the first time I have had "sleek" walls. I'm digging it at the moment but ship lap could definitely find a place here.

That sucks man. I'm about to refinance so I'm hoping that goes nice and smooth but I doubt it.

JP....I didn't realize that you had that much work to do. I only saw the inside part. Today I saw the rest of the story. Holy crap. That was some work to do. I'm glad you got it finished. Nice finish.

From -23 last week to 40 above tomorrow. Damn the weather this year is all screwed up. We also got snow this year. Yeah it arrived. 26 inches at the airport over the past week, but my side of town was closer to 20. Still, too much, considering last year was 30 for the year and 2014 was 24.

White....how is the AT shop deal coming along? You still considering it? Seeing your truck in the shop, is like looking at mine in its place. Down the the shell. I thought, how did he get a pic of my truck, where was that taken, until I remembered you had that with the Escape, Mustang and Expy.

Brew....did you get all your stuff taken care of? How about the DR lady? Anything developing there? Inquiring minds, you know? lol

Yogi....the knee looked good the last pics you posted. I really hate going to PT myself, and my wife worked that job for 24 years. I'm just not the work out kind of guy they always want. lol

Well, got everything organized. Have to write up the listings,- proving ground pics for underground locating equip, package everything for quick shipping, then submit the listings. Good thing I only have to do this once, man I hate selling stuff, too much work.

Doc and I are good, cooked a bunch of stuff last night for us to feast on earlier, well I guess that was yesterday at this point. Cook up Moms lasagna recipe and it was tasty.

Oh yea painting sucks too lol. I have a huge rubber maid storage container full of paint crap to make that easier. Doesn't keep it from sucking though lol.
Particle board/OSB works pretty good for decking (floors) if it's thick enough and of good quality. They make floor joists & beams (engineered beams). Flexible and the house and floor doesn't creek so much. But yea, I can imagine how that must of been tearing that moldy stuff out. The glue they use for that stuff is pretty strong, even wet lol.
How did you like log cabin living? My grandfather and grandmother lived in one, but I was young when they owned it , don't remember much of it. Like to go that route once fully retired...If I have MY way anyway lol. Person I'm with likes modern homes, the warm sunny beach all year round where I like the four seasons cabin with a green roof out in the woods..conflict of interest for sure, but there's room for compromise I guess...I might get the green roof.

Not sure what a "ship lap" is yet, so I can't comment on that one lol.

I've always really loved it but the dusting is rediculous since there are so many more edges for it to settle on. My fiance likes a more modern approach but I got the location on the river I wanted out in the country so I'm pretty happy. Lol

Ship lap is just semi planed, horizontally mounted, sometimes painted 1x8 or x10 board used for accent walls and the like.
