That's an impressive looking vise. I'm curious about the jaw insert above the anvil. Is it a spare insert or is there a useable function at that position I'm not seeing? The moveable jaw can switch sides on the vice? Quick release? I'm a vice nerd. My grandmother's brother in law was a tin and silversmith from Scotland that worked for Chrysler prototyping body molding by hand. He had a collection of small vices which were set up in the jaws of vices like yours. A lot of them he made as part of his apprenticeship and were no bigger than a computer mouse. After seeing his collection I had an appreciation for vices I never imagined possible.

Son-of-a-@*&@# another fire started in the mountain just west of me last night. Fortunately, the rain is really coming down in SLC - so hopefully it heads west and helps the fire die out.

To answer the questions, River.... it is a reversible vise. That's why it has two pads on it, which can be swapped out for rubber, etc. It is a very, very stout piece. Best vise I've messed with so far (haven't done any actual work with it yet).

One of the features I really like is the pipe jaws....

Now that I look at your pictures the pipe jaws make the reversing obvious. Duh. The pipe jaws are handy. When you attempt something like notching it's hard to get a pipe to stay in place without crushing it. Of course they're useful too for all that home improvement stuff you love doing so much. You got a drywaller skin in the backyard on a stretcher yet? Heck, he'd already be powdered too. Forget the salt!

So many choices. Where does he start? A blonde ride? A brunette ride? A Lion ride? Maybe getting a lion to ride a president just for the bragging rights? And of course there's the ride.

LOL, nope... he showed up about 20 minutes after my post. I can't wait to put this to bed. I really thought this would take one week.... not two.

I've got to go pick up some vinyl for the laundry room I want something that can get wet and not be worried about it. HD sells some really good stuff that looks like wood or tile, so I think I'll go with that.

The only thing you can't do with a vise like that is cut pipe threads with it...but how often do you actually need a good pipe vise ?

Yeah... just answer the questions, LOL. The guy says he's got kids, and I like to help a guy that's raising a family.... a little more "lenient" on them I suppose, because I know how distractions go.

I've been trying to spoon feed him the questions, but geez....
