It isn't illegal to remove your muffler, not here and not plenty of other places. It's illegal to remove the cat and it's illegal for your truck to be noisy. It can be quiet enough without a muffler.

Same here in Cali, cats are illegal to remove but as long as you are under 96db you are legal, that's for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and ohvs. Only time it's legal to go over that limit is on a private track and usually those have limits just slightly higher.

Even stereos arnt legally allowed to be heard from more than 50 feet from the vehicle and I've been pulled over for it before but that doesn't stop people from buying 15 12 inch subs and throwing them in the back seat and you don't see anybody saying its illegal when they ask about that.

People do so many illegal things in everyday driving I think it's stupid when people comment on legality of tinted tails and windows and other thing when they don't stop 100% at every stop sign or drive 1mph over the limit.

^^well said. I live out here in california too and cops are pretty lenient and don't really care for petty stuff like tint, exhaust, no front plate etc. Doesnt mean though that if you just left a bar at 1am/2am they aren't gonna pull you over for any of that to check If your deuce. Do what you want to your truck. It may be borderline in the day but cops will use any excuse if your big on nightlife to pull you over. if your unlucky of course haha
