Every time I read you guys talking a out pulling the muffler it makes me want to rip out my 44. I like the sound of it but the few times I hear it drive away it very quiet. And a while ago a single cab 150, i think a lightning. took off at the light next to me and it sounded crazy nice and deep, perfect amount of loudness.

"Most cops won't pull you over" - all it takes is one having a bad day or you accelerate a little too hard at the wrong time.

Personally I would replace it with a magnaflow for better sound and keeping it legal.

Since you're in MN Fordboy:

Ya ok I'm just giving my opinion. Since now I know from experience. Everyone gets bs'd with back pressure and it will sound like **** and this and that. I'm just reassuring people now that I know. MY opinion. I'm not saying he has to do it. And for the record aside from the actual law..I just got pulled over the other day in the next town over where all the cops are ****** for "pulling out in front of someone". Even though I layed on it where the guy didn't get close to me. Just got a warning. He didn't say ONE thing about my exhaust!
Most people won't have problems unless they live where they have inspections.

I love how no one messes with you. I'm basically saying the same thing as you but since I am relatively new here, I get **** on.

As an experienced mechanic and all around motor head, I would like to share my opinion on this topic. I'm not attacking anyone specific, please don't take offense.

You're not fooling anyone. Gasoline trucks and cars don't sound bad*** with no cats and no mufflers. They just sound like ***. People who know what is what can tell you have no muffler, to those people you sound like a fool.

However, If it makes you feel good then do it, this is 'merica right? I'm not hating I'm just putting it out there. If its not loud enough turn down your stereo. Also keep in mind it sounds different when you're standing outside as it drives by.

We aren't saying to cut the cats though... Just muffler. I agree that straights with no cats on these sound like crap generally. But with just the muffler gone its not bad.

Too each his own! But we were both talking about just the muffler. If you have no cats I would do a muffler lol.

Illegal is still illegal even if you don't get caught. Whether it be muffler, drugs, abuse, etc. I'm letting you know in case you aren't informed that it is indeed illegal to replace your muffler with pipe.

PS. Not picking on you cause you're new, you've been here longer than me. I like Browning better, he posts a good amount of useful, helpful information.

lol, who cares who's been here longer... if you really want to get technical, I've been here longer than the two of you and really, it don't mean a damn thing to me.

what does matter to me, is that you're right. illegal is illegal, no ifs ands or buts about it.

but, as an example... a 1999-2002 cummins is quieter straight piped, but its still illegal.

Oh well thanks, I'm pretty sure I thought it was illegal before but hey I wanted to have some fun. And I suppose there's lots of things that are illegal that you don't get caught for. In reality blowing stop signs and speeding is illegal but yet people including myself do it often lol.
And thanks. I just give my opinion and people can take it or leave it for what its worth. I know I dont know as much as a lot of people on here. But all my posts are what I know from experience. Not some bull**** I may have heard from somewhere else lol
