My 1997 F150 4.6 short box (yes, that matters because the tank was bigger on a long box) made it from Thunder Bay to Winnipeg on a tank of fuel. That's about 450 miles.

You know... there sure are a lot of people saying per tank, what does that even mean?!?! My 99 has a 22 gallon tank, other have 18 and 24 gallon tanks, and a few people have even upgraded to larger tanks. So how about we actually figure our mpg real fast and see how horrible our own mileage it, I just got 15.28 mpg last week

I can put 21 Gallons in my truck, I have averaged 15.7 to 16.3, usually 320-350 miles per tank. Depends on my foot.

You guys getting 300-400 either have real big tanks or your calculations are wrong, Ford trucks are notorious for bad gas mileage!
Im with this dude, I normally dont make 200 miles on a tank, but im running 35" mud grapplers and 6" Skyjacker. My problem is I had an 01 supercrew lariat 4x4 with 4" procomp and 35" toyo m/ts and could get 17-19 mpg on a road trip, and running around town would average around 360 miles to a tank or 15 mpg's.I just cant see why the truck I have now is a single cab with the same motor and transmission and gets half as good of gas mileage. There had to be something on that truck that wasnt stock that made it get that kind of mileage, but all im aware of it having was a gibson exhaust.

I figured all of mine based on the miles per tank and the gallon amount of fuel it takes to fill up the truck. Didnt know there was any other way to do it unless its like my 10' with the average mpg display in the dash!

My 97 4x4 scab with a gutles 4.6, 4r70w and 355lsd got me 12.63mpg on my last tank driving mostly highway and the previos tank I got 10.4 on mostly town driving. I'm running oem tires and the only thing I really did to it was the Gotts Mod and true dual Flowmasters. I wonder why I get such poor milage on such a wortless motor when I had a 78 Bronco with a 460 with over 400hp that would get over 10mpg on the highway turning 33"s.
