Default Jasper engine replacement

Hi everyone,

I just got a quote from a local garage to get my engine replaced. They want $6,280 for a Jasper replacement with a 3 year 90,000 mile warranty. That's with installation as well. The reason I'm having the motor replaced is because the truck blew a head gasket and I don't have the time to do it myself. And I thought well with 188k on it maybe I should just have the motor replaced. I want to replace the motor because if I have the head gaskets done that's gonna be 2-3 grand and no warranty if the bottom end goes. But if I have them just replace the whole motor then I have a warranty. The truck is a 97 with the 4.6 by the way. I just wanted to here some of your opinions on the cost, the quality of jasper etc... I'm just worried about the jasper breaking or not performing as well as my previous engine.

Thanks for any input.

Zach

You could put 6k into your motor and make it better and more reliable than a jasper. Or put the 2-3k in the motor just to get it running. Cause whose says the tranny doesn't go out? That's more likely than the bottom end.

I know but the tranny is a lot cheaper to get fixed than a motor. I already had one rebuilt in my 98 for $2000. I'm not really looking for more power if that's what you mean by better. I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with jasper engines. And I know I could just get a newer truck but I really love this truck and would love to keep driving it.

You could buy a whole extra 97-03 truck for $6200

I already have a 98 as well lol. This was my first truck an it was a great truck and I always loved the 4.6. I'm definitely gonna fix it regardless of the cost. I just wanted to know if Jasper's are okay engines.
