BTW, - Amsoil filters here, - you only need one for many many years and it was only 30 bucks. I'll put that one up against any filter on the market. Best dry element there ever was IMO. It's that killer nano fiber that makes them do so well.

Afe outflows and has a tighter micron specification over the Amsoil filters. Dont get me wrong they are great filters. But I love my aFE.

A little bird told me Amsoil quit making air filters. But, I'm not too sure of the bird...haven't checked into it yet.

They are made by Donaldson now. They no longer have a listing for our generation trucks.

Okay, - yea I haven't been following the air filtration stuff for awhile now. Didn't know that about Amsoil filters..huh. However, I'm glad someone still makes them. It's the first filter I've had that I don't have to maintenance. I keep trying tho lol. Every time I pull it off and check the MAF and tube there's absolutely no contamination. I've also attempted to blow out the filter figuring I'd at least get a little dust, - nothing, still looks new as well. Still impressed by that thing and it's been in the truck since 08. Truly is 100,000 mile filter I expect.

That said, - I'll take your word on the AFE. All I can say is it didn't use to be that way..that was many moons ago tho....years.

Ah. Mine needs to be replaced. It went quite a while without needing to be replaced before I started driving it every day, but now it probably could use a replacement more often

It's a 100,000 mile filter. Dirt doesn't embed as it falls off after shutdown.
This is also a direct Cold Air Intake, as most, if not all intakes take air from the inner fender cavity. That's not a true CIA IMO. Since that cavity routes to the engine compartment, more so,- a direct path to fan and radiator. This is why temps aren't much different vs just an open intake. A well known tuner (Mike Troyer) proved true way back when. That was without the extension tho. You need to extend your intake pipe thru the second hole past the fender cavity. Granted, this hasn't been talked about in the past, ever lol and this is as far as I went with it. What I haven't done is monitor IAT/temp differences as I'm currently without those capabilities.

If someone with those capabilities (like say Carcrazygts2) who had an interest in this might see cooler temps when monitoring. Personally I'm interested and it would be sort of fun determining BUT, I'm in the middle of restoring my 98, so it's going to be awhile for me to do something like that.

Anyway, some pics. This is a couple with the factory box integration/pie extension, -

Always great info! You guys have been very helpful and I finally feel like I can go to a dry filter setup with ease my only glitch is the part I. Your pictures between the MAF and the stock intake box, what is that plate? Or is it custom? Thanks

Yea, that's all factory original stuff at the box. All I did was cut most of the first half off. I left the ring were fastens to the other half and the feet so box locked down to the body. Other than that, a Fernco from Home Depot (3") connects the 3" tube to the MAF cylinder...same with the gotts mod and extension...easy peezy..
