Default chip for a 6.0

Ok guys I no this isnt the right section. But I cant find a powerstroke forum worth a damn. If you'll can help me with that to Id appreciate it. But now down to the questions, im lookin at a buyin a truck, a 6.0 powerstroke. But I want to no which chip I could get, just something to give me a little bit more power. But I dont want to risk blowing the head gaskets. I've been told the sct is the best. But why is that? Also the truck im looking at is a 2004 f250 6.0 the guy said it has 211k with original headgaskets and bolts. Has had a egr delete. Thanks!!!!

SCT with a very mild tune would probably be safe. I'd find a reputable diesel shop around you and have them tune it. People running hot tunes on them is what makes them blow, especially with high miles.

Why not buy it first and see if it is lacking power? Seems like a chicken before the egg deal here. It will get you to McDonalds and back just fine as stock. What you you need a 3/4 ton for?

Tackle has a good point, 6.0's aren't very weak stock, power wise. It's smoke your supercrew for sure.

SCT for 6.0, but I wouldn't tune it until I put new head gaskets and head studs. Those torque to yield head studs don't like adding any extra power.

And yeah there fast but they wont blow my supercrew away by anymeans stock anyways. My buddy has a 2004 same as this one stock. He beat me but not bad. Just by a couple inches. And he boosted.

Even in stock form a 6.0 doesn't disappoint. I've considered getting a 6.0 just because they're at a decent price point. And I'd leave the motor completely stock. No tune or anything. Only way to know is to drive it and see. If you feel any hesitation or inconsistent power, walk away. Repairs are costly.

If you leave it stock you can expect problems. Particularly from the egr

And that's sadly most of the problems with the new diesels. And hardcore are you saying he did a boosted launch cause unless you have a smoke switch there is always boost. And is your buddies tuned? Cause a deleted and tuned 6.0 puts down massive numbers. But as said before you want at least studs before a tune.
