Default Just ordered a system..

I just ordered myself an underseat box with a 10" sub and amp. I was just wondering before i went and installed it where people have been running there power wiring through to the engine bay? I've never had any luck finding a good way to go, and end up showing it somewhere exposed. Also, it's an 800w amp, what gauge wiring kit should i get?

What amp are you using? Be carefull with choosing power cable or other equipment based on the power rating silkscreened on the amp. I would be more concerned with the amount of current it draws and the RMS power rating. If you are using a good quality amp from a well known manufacturer whatever is listed should be acurate. If it is in fact 800w at whatever impedence your woofers are then you will need a 4 gauge power cable and ground. If it is some off brand amp, has a very small internal fuse like a 20-30 amp fuse, you might be ok with running 8 gauge wire. Keep one thing in mind. If you use 4ga power cable you need to use a 4ga ground. I would also make sure you have at least the same ga wire from your battery to chassis ground and the power wire from your battery to the alternator.

Well it's an off brand.. and i doubt it gets 800 watts.. I chose a system that was a package deal, and read reviews on both the sub/enclosure setup individually, amp individually, and this combo deal by itself.. All seemed to get good reviews, so i ordered it. I'm not trying to get into any bass comps, just want some bass and without taking up a lot of space. It says 800 watts max, but i would have to assume it would land comfortably between the specs of the sub...

I have got your answer your looking for! I just installed mine last week, I had the same question about running the power wire.

Run the power wire from the battery across the engine bay to the drivers side (i fed mine through this perfect channel by the windsheild wipers) you will have to unbolt your coolant resiviour if your have the 5.4 (its two bolts i think 8mm) slide out the coolant resiviour and you will see a rubber grommet, feed the wire through there with those other wires. it will come out on the inside of the cab kinda up behind the parking brake pedal. I had to make a small slit in the carpet but you cant tell. if you have any questions just ask.

heres my install link.

You could probably get away with using 8 gauge wire but if you have the cash just run the 4 gauge. That way if you ever upgrade you'll be set on the power side. Remember to upgrade the complete circuit like I described in my first post. I really does make a big difference. Mosy people over look this part and pay for it later. Good luck on your install and I hope I was able to help.

GREAT INFO! That is exsactly what i'm looking for.. Did you then unscrew the panels that run along the doors/carpet and run the wire to the back underneath? Thats how i've always done it on other installs...

So battery power to alternator.. and battery ground to chassis, both should be upgraded to 4 gauge wiring? How difficult is this? How much?

yea you can pop off those plastic door jamb things and run the wire under them, you cant see any wires at all on mine.

i wouldnt worry about going with a 4 gauge wire on that amp unless you plan on upgrading later. you would have to upgrade that speaker too if you got a far bigger amp.

How much power wiring did you end up getting to run that length, my amp will be under the small seat in the back?

BTW, i definitely ordered this size system to not upgrade.... Not interested in shaking the neighborhood... Just want to add a little more bass then stock gives us... which is basically nothing...
