Just saw another rust thread that reminded me of your truck. How’d it go at the frame shop?

I went through a similar ordeal after the dealer lied to me about my 07. They covered everything with fresh undercoat. I should have known better. Few weeks later after numerous pressure washes I started to uncover holes in the frame and a bad patch job. Worst was up between the gas tank. Local shop sorted it out and welded almost all new frame from the doors back to the leaf spring mounts. Truck is solid now. Just need some solid clean metal to weld to.

that is interesting. Thanks for posting. Curious, how much did it cost, and who got stuck paying for it?

No frame shop. Been busy.
Will get around to it someday, maybe?

I got stuck with the bill for this. One man shop had it almost two months, charged me $1,500. These were during pics too. He hooked it up and sprayed POR 15 over everything he replaced and around the areas near the repairs.

Wow, that is about 100 times worse than mine.
It looks like the bottom half of your entire frame rail was just gone. The entire length !!
Mine is only rotted for about a credit card size of length. Seems trivial compared to this major surgery.

Yeah it wasn’t a good feeling. He cut pretty much the length of the frame from the front doors to the leaf spring mount and welded in a new C channel. It’s wild to think the truck was up on jack stands and didn’t fold in half when he cut it out.

He said rest of the truck was solid except for a couple of the bed rails were on the rusty side. If I don’t haul max capacity loads I should be ok for a while.

All good to go now! Just under coated with Woolwax black and some fluid film last month.

Sure it was.
You don't "maintain" away frame rust.
