How bad is this frame rust ?

How common is this for a 2007 ?
Can frames be repaired with a weld patch? Is this a huge deal or not really ? The hole is the size of a cell phone. What is the typical cost of this repair ? Attachment 566165 Attachment 566166 |

Wow. That looks pretty bad to me. I'd be for having that cut out and patched I'd possible. Doesn't look super safe as is.

Seeing all your posts and how they’re multiplying with repair questions, how much do you feel like torturing yourself over this basket case?
I’m no frame rust expert living in the Houston area, but even I’d have passed on that. |
Rack leak, frame rust, and change fluids?
Hardly torture. Any used car acquisition involves sorting out the car in the first week There will be a couple of threads, as a result. I can either spend a few grand on sorting a used truck, or spend $45,000 on a new one. Draining $45,000 from my portfolio is what sounds like torture, LOL |
That my friend is a little more than frame rust...i wouldn't put a penny into whatever is sitting on top of that frame.

This Ford is only a 2007.
Before sending the truck for $200 in scrap, Are there any other options? Does anyone here have any actual experience with frame repair? |
I've repaired rust on 60s ford trucks. Repairing a frame is possible IF there is enough good frame left to weld to. Sometimes it's best to find a used frame from the salvage yard off a rollover or something. These days truck like this show up in there that aren't even wrecked because the motor or trans blew up.
is that the only place the frame is rusted? The side up next to the gas tank is a common spot for the frame to rust out. |
This seems to be the only failure in the frame. The rest seems fine.
What side near the gas tank? Driver's or passengers? What about this? Frame cap ? Just weld overlay over the entire section? Is this legit? See photo. https://www.autorust.com/product/ful...assenger-side/ Good point about salvage frame from a Triton failure. Any idea ballpark what a frame swap would cost at a shop? |
That looks awful. If it’s that bad, I wonder what other parts of the truck are also just as bad or will soon be in the future.
I have an 08, live in Vermont where lots of salt is used and I have no holes or even really any rust on my frame. This truck was probably never washed. I’m sure it was neglected in other ways too. |
