Thanks again, I'll program the Edge to the specs you posted and leave the shift points well enough alone. It's a bit of a PITA trying to replicate the problem as I don't tow every day and truck runs like a top empty.

Check out my 87 tow tune on page 2. My 93 performance tune works good too if you can keep out of the throttle lol.

You do have a 4.6 though so adjust your redline and WOT shift points accordingly.

I have a 5.4 so you'll need to change your rpms to reflect the 4.6's Red Line

Okay here is my Economy Setting:

Level 2 87 Octane

WOT Shift
1-2 5200 RPM
2-3 5200 RPM
3-4 5000 RPM

Rev Limiter:
5350 RPM

Conv. Lock Points:
3rd Gear Lock -4
4th Gear Lock -6

WOT Fuel:
1.4

Shift Firmness:
1-2 16
2-3 16
3-4 16

Timing:
+0.5

Speed Limiter:
92 mph

Tire Size:
2645mm

Gear Ratio:
3.73:1

I have a 33" tire as well.

Here is my Performance Setting

Level 3 93 Octane ONLY

WOT Shift
1-2 5300 RPM
2-3 5300 RPM
3-4 5000 RPM

Rev Limiter:
5450 RPM

Conv. Lock Points:
3rd Gear Lock -4
4th Gear Lock -6

WOT Fuel:
1.8

Shift Firmness:
1-2 18
2-3 18
3-4 18

Timing:
+2.0

Speed Limiter:
92 mph

Tire Size:
2645mm

Gear Ratio:
3.73:1
Are the with mods or no?
What is tire size 275/55/20?
What are conv. Lock points? And what do they do?
What does changing timing do?
What does changing shift firmness do? And the wide open throttle?

1. There really isn't anything you can change to reflect your basic mods (CAI, Exhaust, etc) you would need a custom tune from PHP for that.

2. 2544mm

3. (Torque Converter Lock Points) These change at what speed your torque converter usually locks up. Negative (-) numbers will make it lock sooner in 1mph increments. This will get your gear ratio as tall as possible, decreasing transmission temps, and net better gas mileage. With my 4th gear TC lock at -6 I can lock my torque converter at 40mph doing 1000rpm and getting like 24+mpg on the Instantaneous MPG

Positive (+) numbers will make it lock later than normal in 1mph increments, really no advantage to this, unless you just drive hills all the time at low speed and don't want the torque converter kicking in and out. Going in this direction and driving with it unlocked will raise tranny temps, reduce gas mileage, but give you slightly better acceleration while it's unlocked because your final gear ratio is effectively lowered.

4. Timing is the point at which your spark plug fires. Higher octane fuels take longer to burn and therefore need to be lit sooner in order to completely combust at the perfect time.

On 87 octane gas 0.5 degrees of advance is safe, for 93 you can go 2.00 degrees advance.

5. Changing shift firmness is how hard the transmission will shift. You can make it hit hard enough that the truck will actually jump kinda like speed shifting in a manual. Shifting harder sounds bad for your tranny but it is actually better for it (to a point). The firmer shifts reduce slipping in the clutches and heat buildup, much like slipping your clutch in a manual will burn it up. This can increase the life of your tranny since heat is it's #1 enemy. You want more Positive (+) values for firmer shifts.

Negative (-) values will make it shift softer, and make a more comfortable ride. However the shift firmness really only kicks in during hard acceleration so I recommend against this, since as stated above allows more slipping and heat build up the slower your shifts are.

6. WOT Shift Points (Wide Open Throttle Shift Points) It's pretty self explanatory, this is the RPM your tranny will shift at when you have the pedal to the floor.

NOTE: Make sure your Red line is at least 150 rpm above your max WOT Shift Point or it will create erratic shifting at WOT. I forgot to do this the first time I got the tuner, and I saw what they meant it was really weird.

Hope that helps, if any of it was unclear read your manual it's all in there.

It helped a lot. Thank you. I mostly run 93 octane as it is. So is there any tune to help with gas mileage for 93

I'm looking to do these settings to my edge but I have the 4.6L so can someone tell me what to set the RPMs at?
