Default DVD Help

I have a few questions about the wiring for a double din dvd system. First, what is the black and orange wire for the stock unit? Second, what do I do with all the "mute" wires? Lastly, if I ground out the brake wire, can I watch dvds while I drive?

The black/orange wire, can't remember what that was. I can pull mine apart today and tell you later this morning.

Now the "mute" wires. If your talking the ones on the aftermarket HU, just cap 'em off.

As far as the brake wire, yes that will work, but it depends on the brand you have.

Not sure about any of that other than the grounding issue. I have the wire that is supposed to go to the parking brake switch grounded so I can watch dvds. Simply grounding it won't work though you have to put a switch inline and have to flip it off and then back on everytime you want to watch it while driving. Not really sure why its that way but mine WILL NOT work by just simply grounding it there has to be a switch and you have to flip it off then back on to get it to play.

DHFF, what brand do you have? My Alpine is similar, but it has two wires. One for the E-brake and one for the foot brake. I bought a bypass piece from Periphial, Called a PTR7. It goes through the sequence of "switching" every time I start my truck. It's not in my F-150 anymore. It's in my Toyota.

Mine is a pioneer and only has one wire. Like I said mines just grounded with a switch inline and when I start the truck I flip it back and forth once and its good for movies anytime. Basically the same thing yours has but I have to do mine manually. badass although I'm gonna friggin wreck...........haha

Last year pioneer changed to a "double ground" for the video stuff to be bypassed which why the switch has to be flipped a second time. Before that is was a single ground. I have the same bypass on my alpine. There's has always been the two wires.

I use my cigarette lighter as my switch! just find which side is the ground "which says where it connects to the lighter thing" snip the positive side and cap it. then take the wire that the player needs a switch and hook it up. so that way if a cop ever gets you just pull the lighter out and tell him to get it to work. No switch! plus its a clean look, the only bad thing is you cant use it for cell phone or other devices anymore.

I am installing a Kenwood DVD double din this weekend also. I just got done doing the soldering. The orange and black is labeled dimmer ground. The Kenwood only has a dimmer though, so I didn't connect the orange and black. Like the OP, I was wondering about the mutes. The adapter has 4 brown mute wires and one pink labeled phone mute. The Kenwood has one brown labeled mute. Do any of these mutes get connected? The Kenwood only has 1 green wire for the parking brake. I connected it to the grounds, I don't know if it will work, but that is where I started with it.

Additionally, anyone know for sure if the Sirius antenna will work with an aftermarket tuner. I have read a few posts that state you can simply take the plastic cap of the stock antenna and it will connect to the aftermarket tuner. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah India all sirius antennas hook up the same, I used my old XACT antenna on my new pioneer sirius box that mounts in the dash, no need for a new antenna.
