Is this thread serious? Has the OP never put acetone on plastic and watched what happens? It's not a matter of mixing chemicals, but a matter of common sense. As someone previously posted, if this really worked, wouldn't companies already be formulating an acetone fuel additive?

iirc, mythbusters has already done the acetone myth. they proved it doesnt do jack sh*t. and i think it was a carb'd motor they used that supposedly doesnt atomize fuel as well as fuel injectors. so if it didnt help there, it wont help anywhere

they also did the myth of breaking the surface tension of water and found that was BS too. so if water doesnt have a surface tension, why should gas.

P.T. Barnum said it best, "there's a sucker born every minute"

if you believe acetone will get you better gas mileage, fill your tank with it, drive out and visit me in vegas and ill sell you the ocean front property i have out here.....cheap too

I personally am skeptical to any snake oil solution to anything... But I am always open to entertaining the thought or idea without finding the need to accept it.... I also would not take what the "myth busters" do as the be all end all in experimentation... They are great guys to watch and I do find them entertaining but there is only so many resources IE(time, money, relevance to the audience) that they can really deal with.... Just like the rest of us.....
Someone try acetone in the gas tank and report back, Ive tried the capful dosage in my ram and I did not notice anything, my ratio could have been off, it seems the dose should be a lot more than a capful from what I've been reading....

No scientific background here but it would stand to reason that most believe it raises the octane rating. Which in turn give more power from the same amount of fuel. Same thing as mixin a little airplane fuel with a full tank. If it raises the octane then there's some truth to the myth otherwise it's just bs.

It can raise the octane lf you use too much from what I understand... I find it intriguing enough to experiment with it, so I will begin a trial in my ram and in my f150.... Read the link I posted, it's pretty conclusive with other information I found, and it gives you a good idea on what the ratio should be.

I read it should be 3oz per 10gal so it should be around 8oz for 26gal. My truck is a flex fuel so idk what it might do to mine otherwise I'd try it.

...Are we all still on this? I thought I had read on here (several months ago) a through breakdown including a myriad of additives, and why they are/are NOT good for individual applications. Using alcohol-based and strong solvent additives as a preventive measure in E10 gasoline is not a good idea, since this will only increase water absorption and parts disintegration, and may also raise ethanol content over manufacturer recommended 10% maximum. If you're running E10 fuel (here in IA E10 is .10c cheaper than unleaded) then adding anything with alcohol will only hurt you, and nearly ALL additives contain a variation of alcohol (deceptive advertising).
...better yet, just read this: http://www.fuel-testers.com/list_e10_engine_damage.html
Perhaps it will finally close this topic.

Raising octane does not neccesarily mean more power. It raises the resistance to pre-detonation.

Acetone is great at preparing bare metal for paint though.

For all the nay sayers on here, don't try to correct everyone that you think is wrong. I know of alot of people that drive diesels that use ATF in their fuel occasionally. I have never used it in my truck but that doesnt mean it won't work. As for acetone i Dont know but if someone did it that i knew and it worked i would use it. Enough said!

...Telling someone to use diesel additive in their gasoline engine... That's like saying "I'm all outa' condoms, so I guess I'll just eff dudes" Absolutely hysterical.

I won't bash anyone for using additives, I think that as long as you use a product that is actually going to *help* your situation, by all means go for it. Just don't get carried away, or add racing methanol (I've done it, 16oz to a full tank does nothing but make the exhaust smell like grapes)

Add whatever you want, use less rather than more because once it's in there it's a PITA to get back out...when there's a Chuck Norris marathon on, I wanna watch it! - That's all I really wanted to say when I started posting this...
