Any one of those chemicals, or a combination of them will definitely increase octane numbers....that's a fact.

What happens in your engine with that extra octane is when the arguing starts.

My 100hp Shovelhead sits at about 11.0:1 compression, and when riding through small towns, it's pretty tough sometimes to buy decent fuel. A 5 gallon jug of 108 octane race fuel in my city is like 95 bucks, and if stored in it's original container, is claimed to last up to one year....5 gallons fills a whole bunch of gas line antifreeze bottles....like way more than I could use in a summer of riding....so that may work for someone looking for just a straight octane boost.

Regardless of what the chemists and engineers say, octane will increase your hp, if your engine is tuned for that octane fuel, and you always run that octane fuel.

But just pulling up to the pump once and filling up with premium, will do nothing but most likely drop your fuel economy a tad.

Now i've put plus gas and seen a slight increase in mileage and better throttle response. and if higher octane rasies hp then your engines not working as hard to move the same load so your mileage will increase.

Only if it's tuned for that octane.

My bike was street tuned on the dyno for 91 octane fuel. If I use anything other than 91 octane, my bike will not run very well.

I'm sure there is a valid reason why our stock rides feel more responsive with higher octane fuel....I just don't personally believe it's a horsepower increase we feel in our stock engines.

I personally have never realized a mileage increase with higher octane fuel in an unmodified engine.

My truck is tuned to run e85 and that may be why it runs just as good in plus as regular. The e85 has less power so I'm told this making my truck have 2 different fuel maps and the e85 is of a higher octane rating than regular fuel so running a higher octane fuel possibly makes the truck think it ls running e85 and use those air fuel tables. I could be wrong.

E85 certainly has a lot less energy that's for sure, and it always takes more E85 than gas to do the same thing, at least in my truck.

My truck is really responsive no matter what fuel I've tried, so I can't speak to it being more responsive on E85....but I do know my truck likes 87 octane a lot better than E85 for fuel economy.

But getting back to the acetone.....in these new fangled trucks, I don't think a small amount in a full tank will do any harm....no more harm than filling up at Super Save and getting crappy gas.....I also don't think it will do any good.

Just my opinion.

I have tried that…it was cool…

1 ounce per 10gallons = .0008, = 1part per 1300parts…which is far from PURE acetone

companies do make fuel additives with_______(fill in the blank)...

This debate is never going to die. If any one wants to, let them add acetone.
Needed are more mind bending threads about what leveling kit is best, what oil/oil filter,s that turn into arguments about which are best, what muffler should I get, how do I make my truck louder, which tuner is best, how do I get better gas mileage, what size tire can I fit on my truck with no rubbing. And yes even acetone.

If you want to put acetone in your gas go for it!

What did he try this in? A tractor? Sounds like a great way to mess up a good vehicle, especially a new one with all the electronics that control everything in them.

People..I swear..

I've dropped acetone into the gas tonight and will post my results after I run a tank without it, and then with it again.
