Default What a difference E-85 makes!!

Went to the local closed course track and ran my buddies 2012 Ram Quadcab 2wd with the hemi against my 13 screw 5.0 4x4 last week and he easily put a truck length on me!! I had 3/4 tank of 87 octane then....1 week later and I had only about 1/8 tank of E-85 and his truck was exactly the same and I put 1/2 truck on him and he never could catch me!! E-85 make that much difference?? I know I was way lighter with 1/8 tank compared to 3/4 but c'mon!! Either way, I was SUPER happy to outrun his 2wd truck with my 4wd....Says a lot about the 5.0!

In the 80's and 90's & up, E85 does the job. When it is above 100 degrees U only loose about 1 mpg to.

Too bad that in much of the country it's completely unobtainable, requires a higher maintenance schedule, and kills fuel economy.

Fuel economy is terrible and not worth the money since it's only around 30 cents cheaper than 87.. but you can FEEL the extra power... Fun to play with when mpg isn't a concern...I did however put $100 of 87 octane in today and will cruise slowly everywhere trying to maximize mpg after giving my truck hell this week..

Probably about who had the better launch. These trucks are all pretty close. E85 will help but likely not that much.

Tried many different times... Actually rolled off in 1st gear one time.. Biggest difference was in 2nd gear where my truck really fell off but held its own this time...3rd was terrible on him. I really pulled hard. Big difference between the two races..maybe a lot of it was weight. Either way, my 4wd Ford outran a 2wd Dodge..Not really into racing and prob never do it again but I was proud of my truck

Probably not the type of fuel in the tank, more like the amount of fuel in the tank. Doesn't take much to make up a half a truck length when you're talking 3/4 vs 1/8 tank of fuel.

Weird, shortly before I traded my 2011 F-150, XLT, Scab, 5.0 w/3.55 gears. I encountered a brand new '14 Ram 5.7 Hemi Crew Cab Long Horn (Had the huge belt buckle badge) on door, projector lights and color matched grille, bumpers.

Anyway guy wanted to go, so I thought why not (at track of course *wink* *wink*) at any rate I can vouch, while I barely pulled it off, but I DID actually pull it off and he was quite embarrassed about it. Probably only ran from 5 mph - about 60 or so, who knows he probably might have taken me if we ran them all the way out.

That's why I have a hard time believing when people have come on here and said they drove the new Ram 5.7, and thought it was faster than the 5.0 or even the EcoBoost.

My test proved otherwise. Also back in 2009, I test drove a used Crew Cab, Ram with 5.7 someone traded in that had just 8k miles. I took it out on the freeway and put my foot into it, and it barely did anything but make more noise.

I have nothing against Ram's, and I've said it before I think they are the best looking 1/2 ton. Especially the trims that have the monochromatic paint and 20" wheels. They are the worst looking in stripped out trim though.

I'm very ignorant about E-85...what does temp have to do with it?
