Woke up this morning to a frozen emergency brake. Reversed got it unstuck, but had horrible squeal, etc

So took it to the dealership

Found out they have said.
1. Torn ebrake line
2. Needs new shoes and rotors on both
3. replace brake fluid

Now they are quoting 800 or so to do the work... I don't understand that considering there is a coupon for 180 a piece for pads. Yes they would add the rotor etc...

Thoughts on if that is right?

I would say that going with genuine Ford parts, you would probably be looking at $400+ in parts and 3-4 hours to complete the work. it seems like an accurate quote to me. you can certainly get much cheaper pads and rotors somewhere else like Autozone but they may not last nearly as long as OEM.

 

I bet you save $200-300 going to an independent mechanic or a chain brakes place. Brakes are generally an easy replacement and therefore there is ample competition (like oil changes) to allow for somewhat fair pricing if you shop around....

 

Brake jobs are rape jobs for dealerships.

 

I've put new rotors and pads all around. Slotted front, drilled/slotted in rear with EBC green pads. I want to say I paid like $500 for all that. Had I gone with OE parts it was like $40 for rotors... Prob like $250 for all the parts. I did the work myself - easy.

 

^ Do it yourself. At least do the pads and rotors, that is the bulk of the cost. It will probably take you 2 hours to do it in your driveway.

 

Rockauto.com has Powerstop rotors and pads for front and rear for $265.

and you can always use ( Alldata.com ) price/repair website, it's not free. but will show what/how and what prices repair shops SHOULD Charge. might be worth checking out. Friend of mine uses it for his Audi ( since everything foreign is soo expensive, it lets him know how to repair something, and prices, labor # of hours, etc... )

 

Thanks all. Called around for all of it seemed pretty much the same price for decent rotors and pads And the brake line Around here. Might have saved 50 or 60 bucks but lower end parts I think. With 2.5 yr old twins convenience of leaving it there was worth it
