I think that Apple did add the Message Access Profile to iOS 6 so I think the ball would be in Fords court to update their software to support it.

The capability is there, but Apple has not enabled the software yet.

I have a watch on the way from Pebble ( http://www.getpebble.com ) that states they have the ability to interface with iOS messages since iOS 6 because Apple added the Message Access Profile. I am not an expert on it by any means but it seems like if a kickstarter startup can make it work then Ford should have the ability.

The functionality is based on a setting you need to enable in the Blue-Tooth settings on the iPhone, it was there when iOS6 was in Beta but it is no longer there in the Production version of the software. I do know that Apple has worked with some auto manufacturers like BMW and I believe Mercedes and have enabled it to work in their vehicles, they have not done this with Ford and Lincoln at this time.

They may have done the same thing with Pebble.

Well, iOS 6.1 was released yesterday. I installed and unpaired on both the phone and the Nav unit. Re-paired. No options for messages. It appears to me that this is an issue with Ford. According to Apple the MAP profile is there and can be accessed. I don't know why it showed up in the betas but my guess is it could have been something to do with encryption not being enforced in the earlier betas. At any rate, if a $500 phone can get several updates over the life of the device and Ford posts 5.7 Billion in profits then they could be a little less stingy with the updates for vehicles that costs tens of thousands of dollars. /end rant.

For those having issues with text messages on the iPhone not showing up on MFT try this on the iPhone:

1. Settings
2. Bluetooth
3. SYNC
4. Turn on 'Show Notifications'

This worked for my old iPhone 4 and my new iPhone 5 on my 2013 F-150.

Your mileage may vary.

David

I'm getting all of the same errors on my 2012 Screw with Nav and iPhone 4S on iOS 6.1. I've tried everything. I would love to see pics of settings and what it looks like when working.

Thanks!

In my 4s, I dont have an option to "turn on notifications".

I hit settings>Bluetooth>SYNC and the options are:

Forget this phone

Sync Contacts on/off

Phone favorites
Phone recents

Apple most definitely has MAP enabled as my iPhone 5 works in my 2008 Explorer SYNC for text messages, my sister's 2010 Focus, and on my buddy's aftermarket headunit in his Jeep, but it does not work in my 2012 F-150.

I remember back in November reading that Ford was planning a huge update for all SYNC and MFT systems, so I am just hoping for that and that it fixes the issue, because it seems the issue is with something on the later SYNC models
